That's the downside of group identification, isn't it. Solidarity is one thing, but by definition an "other" is automatically created, and the rancor begins. Militantly define in & out group members and the rancor really begins.

Foxyscholar, have you ever experienced racism from darker skinned African Americans?
I remember reading an interview of long time African American actress Eartha Kitt, who is lighter skinned. She turned very nasty when asked what she thought about racial equality... she replied in a very terse tone "darker skinned African Americans turned their back on me, so I owe them NOTHING!"
And I remember back in the 1970's when I was working at Michigan Bell, the darker skinned African Americans in my department were calling the lighter skinned African American women "yellow heffers" behind their backs.
I hope things have changed in the "pigmentation department" among African Americans. |

Zulu_Warrier I enjoyed reading your "history lesson" up above. I used to love the race discussions on this forum back in those days. Learned a hell of a lot from you guys, especially Rasputin. I remember reading things here that left me thinking for hours and days about specific race issues that had never even occurred to me before. To this day I'm regularly involved in diversity/race discussion activities in the school district where I work, but I have yet to be involved in anything as enlightening as DetroitYes circa 2003-2005.

Well I'm a white old fart with a mixed race wife. But I do not see race. Since this seems a safe place to bring this up, it's also one of the reasons I want to leave here. I am tired of living in the racist 1950s attitude around here and I'm tired of them reliving the civil war and crying how great the south would have been if they didn't surrender. They act so uppidity but as soon as you cross the SC line the IQ drops 50 points. Not all are racist here but the majority.
