It had a few locations, one of which was on Howard Street. We had a couple of annual dinners of the Great Lakes Maritime Institute (Dossin Museum)at the Howard street location. Curt Hasseltine (sp?), the late maritime columnist/writer for the Free Press sponsored us at that location.

In the mid 70s I used to hang out at the Detroit Press Club, when it was on Howard St. The bartender was Eddie Motil and the chef was Roosevelt Roscoe. Used to see people there like Charley Manos, Neal Shine, George Pierrot, Mort Crim, Sonny Eliot, Dwayne X. Riley and many others. And I actually got to have lunch with Soupy at the Press Club.

Wasn't "scallywag" the term that George Plimpton used when Alex Karras knocked him on his ass in Paper Lion? I saw George taking a few snaps for the cameras during the half time (exhibition pro game against the Colts) in Michigan Stadium when a segment of the movie was being cut. Great movie.too!

I mean it in a complimentary sense. A real newshound, go-getter, classic guy.
