On Friday, August 3, 2007, internationally-acclaimed Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit will revive its wildly successful production of the hit musical, Now That I Can Dance — Motown 1962. The show will run for two consecutive weekends from August 3rd thru August 12th at the Detroit Film Theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Produced in cooperation with the Motown Historical Museum, Now That I Can Dance recounts the early days of Motown, before Diana Ross reigned supreme, Little Stevie became a legend, and five young girls from Inkster (The Marvelettes) recorded Motown’s first song to ever reach number one on the Billboard pop charts -- “Please, Mr. Postman.”

Written by Mosaic Founder and CEO, Rick Sperling , Now That I Can Dance is based on the personal memories and stories of Katherine Anderson Schaffner – an original Marvelette, whose character “Kat” serves as the play’s narrator – and other Motown pioneers.

“I have never met a group of young people as charismatic and professional as the young artists of Mosaic,” stated Anderson Schaffner. “I couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of Now That I Can Dance, and I’m honored to have my name associated with it!”

“Many people know the story of what Motown became, but few know about the early days when the stars-to-be were still teenagers, and Berry Gordy was trying to refine the Motown sound,” stated Sperling. “We’re thrilled to have Mosaic alumni and community members join our young artists to bring this inspiring, dance-in-the-aisles story to the stage.”

Now That I Can Dance will be performed at 8pm on Friday’s and Saturday’s and at 4pm on Sunday’s. As part of “Target Half-price Weekend” generously sponsored by Target , tickets for the first weekend (August 3, 4 & 5 performances only) are available at 50% off the regular ticket prices! Tickets for the second weekend (August 10, 11 & 12) are available at regular ticket prices ($18 general admission; $12 students and seniors).
