I learned recently that I was born at Deaconess Hospital...in 1951. I also recently learned, on this forum, that the hospital was torn down years ago...no wonder I couldn't get any current info on Google! Anyone have some idea where the patient records, specifically birth records, from Deaconess would be? I'm sure they don't destroy those things. Anyone who reads this and can give me some help would be appreciated.

I would guess that there is a state agency that takes over those vital records when a hospital closes.

I believe all birth certificates are kept at Herman-Kieffer.

Try this link for a birth certificate:

http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0 ,1607,7-132-4645_4702---,00.ht ml

I used this link a few years ago to order a birth
certificate for my mother when she went into a nursing home. She was born in a house in Detroit in
1918 and this link worked very well for me. I used
the option of ordering by mail but there is an online option also.

You can order a CERTIFIED copy of your birth certificate from Lansing. Link with info is at
http://www.vitalrec.com/mi.htm l#State

Many folks in Michigan have what they think is a birth certificate, but it's only a legal notice that a birth certificate is on file. It does not contain vital information such as parents occupation, address, etc. If your 'birth certificate' does not have that information, I would strongly recommend spending the $26 and obtaining a true copy.

Genealogy is my hobby. I've sent hundreds to the state to obtain ancestors birth certificates. Jennifer said she really appreciates it....... :-)
