How were the crowds where you sit? I observed definitely more people in Memorial Annex Park. My summary of my favorite weekend in Detroit: Hats off to the DRRA (Detroit River Regatta Assn) for a great job this year. Friday attendance in Waterworks Park was up big time from last year. Lots of displays, vendors, attractions. Hospitality suites were back as well as Judges stand viewing area. Many boats out qualifying, even the mayor got to ride in one of the off-shore race boats! Saturday was a terrible day for racing. Way too windy. Thanks for the off-shore racers for saving the day! Rough water does not bother them. Sunday was a perfect day for racing on the river. Weather was awesome for the fans as well. I would say attendance in the park I go to was 2 to 3 times higher this year than last. I also saw many more people viewing on Belle Isle! The last few years Belle Isle looked totally empty. The F-18 fighter plane put on a very cool show! I heard a rumor from some of the DRRA folks that we may have the Blue Angels from the US Navy next year. This will be the 100th running of the APBA Gold Cup! It will be a special event in the city of Detroit. Sounds like Detroit had a good weekend! That being said, I hate the Gold Cup, its like NASCAR on the water. | ||

I can't stand Nascar, or racing period, but I usually head to Belle Isle for Gold Cup weekend every year... mainly for the BBQ and booze...lol, but it is cool watching the Unlimiteds cruise by at 190.  |
