I was making my rounds of antique stores this weekend to find some nice 20's era stuff for my 20's era house, and came across this barrel from the E&B Brewing Company! Well, the second I saw it, I had to have it. Managed to talk the price down quite a bit too.
I see the E&B Brewing building is now lofts. http://www.e-bbrewerylofts.com/ I just really love this little treasure, and it fits my decor perfectly. Anybody have any E&B stories to share? |

Mother-of-all. Great idea, Packman! I've already got the drivers, too. Two of Nakamichi's original 10-inch mobile units from the early eighties. Kept them all these years, but we lost the grilles. Perfect use for 'em! |

Hey leave my barrel alone Gannon! LOL Thejesus, the dealer was asking $125 for it. I had the guy working at the antique mall call up the dealer and offered $75. He accepted it. It might be a lot to spend on an old barrel, but I couldn't pass on it since it had the company's name and "Detroit, Mich" engraved on it. I think another few days and I'll already have gotten $75 worth of enjoyment looking at it. |

Real nice man. Always glad to see stuff like that survive! That's why theres fewer jobs down here. All the places people used to work get turned into lofts! |

At least they're being used now. Nothing like another abandoned building in Detroit. The neighborhoods should be so lucky. |

Well Native, I found this at the Antique mall on 12 mile in downtown Berkeley. That place has a lot of great stuff, and if you go every month or so, you will see a lot of new items each time. I'm also looking for some other decent places, so I pose the same question to anybody who knows some. I know there is one in Detroit by 94, anybody go there? |

LOL. Well there is a large antique trunk next to it that looks a bit like a treasure chest. So... hmm. Nah, I just have a lot of old stuff, much of which is made out of wood. So it just fits well. |

Nice piece Johnlodge! Do you have any idea how old it may be? It looks like it’s made of Oak, with iron straps and bung-hole sphincter. I wonder what kind of wood was pounded into that hole, and if they used any thing to facilitate the ease of penetration, like they do in Ferndale? Just wondering, as it is kind of cute. |

LOL Bullet. Come on, Ed already did the bunghole joke. I do not know how old it might be. The antique dealer said it was from the 30's, but I have no idea how to verify. |

Detroit Antique Mall or Senate Resale, by Cass Tech, has lots of "stuff" Also Village Antiques on Michigan Ave in Dearborn, near Sacred Heart. In East Dearborn there's a "retro antiques" that really has some nice things, picked up a piece of stained glass that was from an old house in Detroit. |

"Where can I find some Detroit Prohibition era artifacts" Easy Terry. Buy a house from that time period, start opening up the walls, and voila! Hidden stashes galore. |

I always love the tile in the arches on the E&B building--I believe it was made by the Flint Faience Tile Company--which really has nothing to do with the barrel so I will stop now. |

Check it out, I found this barrel from around the same time, also from an old brewery in a midwest industrial city. If the current bid on this, plus the $25 shipping and handling is any indication, I think I got quite the deal on my barrel. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA PI.dll?ViewItem&item=220132885 166&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.eba y.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.d ll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm3 7%26satitle%3D220132885166%26f vi%3D1 |

That ebay barrel looks like it may have been stained, and the metal hoops painted. I doubt the brewery did that. |

Actually Johnlodge research has led me to several homes that were occupied by Purple Gangsters Hyman (the Indian) Altman and Charles (the Professor) Auerbach. The house on Euclid is vacant and the home on Webb is occupied. Anyways great find John. Ever been to that antique place on the 75 service near Cass tech? |
