How bad is the weather in Ann Arbor right now? I saw tornado warnings and such?

Big storm headed this way. Seems to be gaining strength as it approaches. Along with heavy rain, there is a 50% chance of hail up to 1.25" thick.

The biggest of the storm cells is hitting livonia, heading into taylor. A second, weaker cell is hitting Farmington Hills and should hit Warren in about 20-30 minutes.

Filling in for the experts since they're MIA. :-)

Bigjeff, I'm downtown and the sirens went off, but the projected tornado passed through the country in the NE corner of Washtenaw. Downtown we've had some gusty winds and downpours, that's it. If the storm that produced the tornado holds together, it will affect downtown Detroit, based on its track seen on the radar. We'll find out in a few minutes.

hey guys,

we just got a Tornado drill here in Ann Arbor.
I was quietly studying in my window booth on the 4th floor of the Undergrad Library.
The sight was amazing, the clouds were very dark and the change of atmosphere was amazing.
However the UM staff raided all the floors and forced us down to the basement from 345PM to 415PM.

Apprently, the tornado passed 7 miles north of A2, in Whitmore lake.

First experience of this kind!
Interesting!

Wow, not much of an ideal scenario for the art festival.

oh and by the way, yes... the library basement was PACKED... from all the people at the art festival.

We just got info of 5 injured in the stairways to the basement. Seriously, I can't believe how much some people can panick.
Some (few fortunately) people were running like maniacs pushing everybody around to make it safe... This kind of behavior stresses out everybody and is potentially dangerous.

One of the injured is a 6 year old girl who got shoved and fell straight on her forehead... shame... shame... shame

Wow, these winds are pretty impressive. This is my first storm experience way up in the air. The combination of wind, rain and hail is fun to see develop miles around. I cant see the apartment building 4 blocks away.

Nice windstorm we're getting in the Pointes. I'm watching my neighbors flowerpot get blown around her driveway.

Hey Ray1936, thanks for thinking of me. I was kind of sitting on the sidelines this time because of the way I seem to jinx my own predictions. I am uploading a few shots from about an hour ago and will post them forthwith. I said I wouldn't say this again, but, we got some rain coming! I will have some blow by blow, if things cooperate.

O.K. here is a few shots from around town taken in the last hour or so. This will be the benchmark for the ensuing weather we are expecting this evening and through the night time:

Well, it finally rained in the Las Vegas area today. Here's the view down my street: look at all that "wet" on the asphalt!

First rain since March, best as I can recall.

We're finally in a decent summertime pattern for this week.

Those Upper Level Lows I was talking about that usually bring the pop-up afternoon T-storms, One will be rotating NW out of Northern Ohio into SE Michigan. The Moisture and Dynamics are pretty good with this system as typical. All the storms however are mostly daytime based.

Then Friday will be interesting as we could not only be looking at Widespread Severe WEather, but Widespread Flooding.

Friday, a very dynamic Cold Front with just enough instability will move through here sometime in the Afternoon. Depending on the timing will actually depict our Severe Weather chances. None the less, storms should be already in progress Friday Morning and with a enormous surge of Gulf Moisture and favorable WindShear, Any storms that do develop could train over one another and produce very torrential (likely nearly tropical) downpours.

Unfortunately after that, the Good Ole' Canadian High will park it's behind across the region for tranquil, water free weather for quite some time.

Looks like a possible Hail producer has popped up along the Detroit River from the Downriver Areas up into Downtown.

Been a very rainy period 9:30-now in Ann Arbor. A steady light rain with a few extended periods of heavy rain and thunder. I don't think we've had a slow soaker like this since the mid spring.

They say A2 has picked up about an inch of water, and the storm along the DR isn't moving very fast to the SSW and more are trying to organize over Southern Macomb County. WE're just seeing plenty of eerie dark clouds over on the Eastside. They're worried a bit about some urban/small stream flooding this afternoon, gusty winds and pea-sized hail with any storm that develops.

If you're headed downriver over the next 1-2 hours, be prepared. If anything, the storm isn't weakening and setting itself right over I-75.

Interesting enough, V1 out of the DTX NEXRAD depicts 66 DBZ and some pea-sized hail, and 60 and above is torrential rainfall rates automatically. 66 DBZ is pushing it towards sub-tropical.

Thanks Urbanize. I'm sure folks who can't turn on the Weather Channel, WDIV, or simply type "weather.com" in the address bar of their browser appreciate the weather update every 10 minutes or so.

"Can I find out about the latest Detroit developments at WeatherYES.com?"

Just as well as I can find out about Cars at CarYES.com
