I was looking for my Grandmother's old house on Sheehan, and learned that the street is now only one block long. As far as I know, it is the shortest street in Detroit. Are there any shorter ones? http://maps.google.com/maps?f= q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Sheehan+St, +Detroit,+MI+48213&sll=41.9020 1,-87.788405&sspn=0.010205,0.0 17982&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr& om=1 |

Gage street, around Forest and Trumbull, used to be just a quarter block long. I'm not sure if it even exists any more. It ran east from Hobart. Spaulding Court was listed as a street, but it's really just a courtyard for an old apartment complex that never got developed. It runs off'n 12th street up around Buchanan. Scuse my oldness. Rosa Parks up around Buchanan. |

Middle Street runs behind the Michigan Building from Clifford until Cass. It is only about 280 feet long. |

Looks like Phelps has this one beat, but I always thought Lucky Place was pretty damn short. The street is essentially a bridge over 94 for most of its' length. The long road that connects with Lucky Place is actually the GM plant's private road. http://maps.google.com/maps?f= q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Lucky+Place ,+Detroit,+MI+482&sll=42.40102 4,-83.021879&sspn=0.007115,0.0 14462&ie=UTF8&ll=42.377441,-83 .038466&spn=0.007117,0.014462& z=16&om=1 |

Downtown has some pretty short streets, I know on one of my first trips to downtown I couldnt find my car that was parked in a garage on Bates, even asked some people who lived downtown who had no clue. |

Jacoby Alley (which does have its own street sign) in Bricktown is short. As is Shady Lane in SW Detroit. |

Mechanic Street might not be the shortest, but it's worth a mention. It's a narrow, seemingly pointless street that separates two parking lots. It's somewhere around Gratiot and Brush. |

I like this game but it needs rules. First of all, let's set the bar somewhere: Mechanic St. is about 360 feet long. Know of anything shorter? Second: it's truer to the concept if we stick with stand-alone short roads; there are plenty of roads that are, overall, fairly long but which have some segment or another cut into absurdly short pieces by an expressway (or whatever). Mullett appears to be such an animal; it was probably longer before it was cut off by I-375. By the way, has anyone else noticed the ridiculous irony that a street named "Mullett" was cut badly? Just wondering. Third: I think anything named "X Alley" was probably at one time an alley and so perhaps should be out of the running - but correct me if that assumption is wrong. So has anyone got a complete street, end to end, shorter than 360 feet? Bonus points for the shortness not being caused by an expressway cutting off the road. |

Check out Johnson with the pedometer. It's got to be much shorter than 360 feet. |

Johnson: Try mapquest.com for locating it. It's about a block west of Alexander--err. oops! showing my age ~100 years old--Newark. Then revert to Google Earth for the measurement. |

Bumble, Sorry I missed your earlier post! My mapping software measures Union to be 308' long, which is more than 200' but still shorter than Mechanic. So now the bar is 308' by my measure. Scott |
