In 2000, Archaeology magazine had an article about an historic site that had been revealed because of low water levels on the Great Lakes. The site is part of an old corduroy road dating from the around the time of the War of 1812. The logs were part of the River Road, aka Hull's Road, a military supply line which ran from Detroit to what is now Monroe.

We visited the site and walked on the logs, and are thinking about going back this fall. Paul Cypher of Lake Erie Metropark wrote this morning that the site is still visible and accessible. The logs are on the west side of Jefferson between Silver Creek and the Huron River.

Let me know if you are considering a field trip and would like more detailed directions.
