To make a short story long... I have a cd of live performances by the Flying Clouds of Detroit consisting of live radio broadcasts on stations CKLW and WJLB in the 1940s.In 1942 the announcer reads a list of upcoming gigs, "On Thursday Feb. 19, the Flying Clouds Quartet will be preforming at the Olivet Baptist Church, 554 Winder St., Detroit Mich., Rev J.H. Bruce, Pastor." Mapquest shows this address as the north side of Winder, east of Beaubien. If you go to this location, you see the fenced-in grounds of the Brewster Housing Projects. There is a 'ghost' curb cut, which may be old driveway for the church. Google lists an Olivet Baptist Church on the Southfield service drive, 2 blocks south of 8 mile. Does anyone have a picture of this church, or any knowledge about it? Bonus trivia question: How many members are there in a gospel quartet? |
