Does this building still exist? Apparently it was Detroit's federal courthouse from 1897 until 1934 when the existing (Levin) federal courthouse was built

No, it was torn down to make way for the new courthouse.

From what I read in the DetNews, the Chief Judges ornate chambers from the old courthouse were dismantled and reinstalled in the new 1934 structure. Today it is Chief Federal Judge John Feiken's courtroom.
