Excluding Sinbad's of course. I'm looking to take my girl to a nice place for her birthday but she doesn't want to do the formal dress. Both sides of the river will do. Thanks to any who particate.

The Rattlesnake Club is very nice over in Rivertown. Corner of Atwater and Joseph Campau in the River Place complex!

Johnlodge,

I am positive you will not be able to walk into the Roostertail and get a table. Whan is the last time you did this?

Genesyxx,

I would go to the Andiamo riverfront in the Ren Cen. The food is excellent and the prices vary for what you want. The service is astounding, and you do not have dress formal. Just no jean shorts and tank tops - OK? Try their red pasta sauce, it is out of this world.

Have not tried seldom blues or rattlesnake. Heard good things though.

Good point. Unless he wants to book an entire room for just he and his girlfriend, the Roostertail is out.

I personally like Andiamo on the Riverfront if you can get a seat outside.

Oops, I meant the Rattlesnake club. Rattlesnakes, Roosters, what's the difference.

How about Sans Souci on Harsens Island? It is a pretty interesting place and just getting there is fun. You take a small ferry from Algonac to the Island and if you've never been out there you'll be amazed.

Seldom blues is on the pricey side and, when I was there about a year and a half ago, required some dressing up. The Detroit Princess river cruise is about as riverfront as it gets. Plus there's usually entertainment.

You will not be disappointed by Seldom Blues at the Ren Cen.

Is Pier 500 really that trashy? I've never been there but I've heard very little about it. I love Wyandotte!

Detroit Princess was nice but not if you get queasy on boats. I did and ended up not keeping food down.

Seldom Blues is my top choice for this side of the River. I'm wondering if there's anything Windsor side (so you can see our magnificent city here) that has window seating.

In Windsor there are a couple restaurants located downtown facing the Detroit Skyline,,
"The Keg" has steaks, and various popular main course dishes. It is located on the main floor of the Chrysler headquarter building at Riverside Dr and Ferry St. It is actually very nice inside,, very modern/contemporary and sleek.
The new Bistro on the river has opened up for food service, good location right on the water at the foot of Riverside Dr,in the parking/park area on the river..
Papa Cheneys on the east side of Riverside Dr and Ouellette before Goyeau offers bar food fare and many other types of food at very reasonable prices, actually very good for the price, very casual..

That's what I was thinking Raptor. My girl is adamant about going to Windsor so we'll try there. Thanks to all!

Is she 19?

Just kidding, but I could not imagine doing the border thing just to go to dinner.

I would second The Keg. It's a Canadian chain, but the food is consistently good.

Papa Cheney's is more of a bar. Skip it.

The riverfront Bistro doesn't have a liquor license yet, so you can't have any alcohol with dinner.

The Casino might have something, but with all the construction, I'm not sure what's open and what's not.

I would recommend reservations for the Keg though:

You might also consider Fender's Tavern, which is tucked away inside the Omni Hotel next to the Stroh River Place complex. They have a fantastic patio right next to the RiverWalk...close enough that you can spit your lemon seeds into the river. Probably one of the better-kept secrets along the riverfront, although they seem to have been hosting plenty of weddings this summer.

Coach is very good, but don't expect to get a window seat. $$$$

Even if you are close to a window, your "view" may be obstructed. Soak it all in on the elevator.
