As of July, the DDG were ranked 19th in the nation for women's flat-track roller derby. The Eastern Regional Championships were last weekend in Columbus. In the first round, Detroit upset Boston in the final seconds of play. Their second game was against Minnesota, who are ranked 6th in the U.S. Detroit upset them too. This victory earned them invitation to the National Championships in Texas next month. (Only 8 derby teams across the U.S. got invites.) http://www.txrollergirls.com/2 007wftda/index.html

In the next game they lost to New York's Gotham Girls, who would go on to win the Eastern Championships. Detroit played again immediately following this loss and ended up just 10 points down on the Carolina Girls. That makes them fourth in the Eastern regionals and will cause some major changes in the team rankings.

And as an added bonus, Detroit skater Racer McChaser won the overall MVP title for the tournament. http://www.detroitderbygirls.c om/devilsnightdames/racer.html
