We went downtown for a late morning walk today. We strolled along the RiverWalk to Rivard Plaza, then back for a visit to the Indian Festival. Up Woodward with a stop at Eph's for lunch, then an hour at the car show at Campus Martius. A great crowd, friendly smiles, great cars, lots of relaxing at the fountains... awesome day. Then I came home and saw the last two innings of an amazing win over the Yankees! What could be better!

I'm jealous. I was going to go for a late morning run down on the river in which I may have passed you, but I've been stuck here indoors at the library working on an essay all day. Maybe I'll go for a bike ride since the evening looks "splendid?" lol

Detroit rocks! :-)

We too enjoyed a wonderful day in downtown Detroit. We started with breakfast at Plaka's in Greektown, then went to the Detroit Festival of Style and Speed car show at Campus Martius for a couple hours, followed by the Tigers victory over the Yankees, 5-4. The car show was awesome; we hope that this will become an annual event and expand to bring in more cars and people. After the game, we headed out East Jefferson to take a few photos of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix billboards and other signage...thought about going over to Belle Isle but traffic on the bridge was at a standstill starting at Jefferson so we continued east through Grosse Pointe and enjoyed the Lakeshore Drive scenery before heading back home to Royal Oak. Wonderful day!!!

What car show was this? Was Peter Karmanos showing off his rides?

This was a new event this year. I guess it ran Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and included a cruise, etc. Here's a link to their website:

How great! I wanted to go downtown but we were too tired from cleaning Mother Nature's prunings to walk around. I hope it's this nice next weekend!

Seriously though, did Karmanos have any of his cars out at the event?

It was a great afternoon to spend in the city, I decided to take a river cruise before they shut down the service next week, the weather was perfect! Afterwards I treated myself to a dinner at Slows.

it was a beautiful day yesterday for sure. tried to picnic on Belle Isle, but for some reason there was a line of cars backed up on the bridge (anybody know what was going on? i'm curious), so we relocated to Elmwood Cemetery, then caught Superbad at the Riverfront 4, then a nice Riverwalk stroll, where we paid a little visit to the Itsjeff memorial bricks. it really was a great day to be downtown, even just strolling around people-watching.

I think the issue at Belle Isle was the result of the grand prix. They closed the race course to through traffic over the weekend. All traffic onto belle Isle was routed left onto the 1 lane they had open.

Also on Belle Isle on Sunday was the 26th Annual Immunization and Health Fair hosted by the Detroit Health Department and Channel 7; it was held at the Casino. That probably caused some heavier than usual traffic as well.

The pics are great, I took my bike for a ride over to the Festival of Speed, it was great, real cool t/sweat shirts for sale to. Then rode over to the river walk, it was very crowded with lots of people of all types and lots of kids having fun in the fountains in front of GM Riverfront. This is exactly how a city should be. I couldn't get over what a change has taken place in five years. The following weekend should be very exciting. The jazz festival has been enormous the last two years, great entertainment and thousands and thousands of happy people. I talked to some people from Philadelphia who actually took a side trip to Detroit while travelling Michigan and stayed downtown so they could see the Speed Festival. They said they loved downtown, had a great time in Greektown and the casinos and had dinner the night before at Ren-Cen Andiamo, and were hoping to catch the Tigers monday night. They had no idea there was this much to do here and thought the people were just wonderful. Everytime I see these things happen I have to shake my head when I talk to the naysayers who hardly ever even visit downtown yet constantly trash it. It always seems that they hate to see good things happen in Detroit for some perverse reason. Oh well, we Detroiters know better. Good things certainly do happen here.
