The track is Think Twice, by The Detroit Experiment, which is a collaboration featuring Carl Craig. Quality jams!

Wow - some really nice juxtapositions there, synched to a great beat. Memories of both the gone and the ongoing. Only in Detroit!

There will be another Detroit Experiment CD out soon. It is a tribute to Tribe. The DJ's are going to go crazy with this. Wendell Harrison, Marcus and crew created some highly collectable CD's back in the tribe days.

Ha, what a fun site, animoto.com. Walkerpub thanks for the kind remarks.

The internet never ceases to amaze.

I just tried it out and in 10 minutes created a 30 second flash movie. I slapped in a bunch of low res pictures from the Fabulous Apartment Ruins tour, then applied one of their freebie electronica mpegs and voila.

Watch out for this site/program to take off, especially if they allow an equally simple editing interface to change timing, movement, etc. I am guessing that will be their money-making hook. Allowing download of the resulting .swf will be another.

Animoto is highly addictive- it only costs $30 for a subscription and the buzz is they will soon offer full screen high-rez videos

Here is one I did that combined Saving The Capitol Theatre in Windsor with Naked Walkerville and the Doors of Windsor projects.

quote:

It is a tribute to Tribe.

A Tribe Called Quest or is this a reference to a techno group that I, someone who is not as in tune with electronic music as I should be, am unaware of?

Hey, the Madison Lenox. What an ugly, aluminum shack that was. The quality asphalt there now is much better. Especially when not in use the majority of the time.

*cries

Sparky Anderson is a ruin? :-)

Wow. Looks like you were quite the fan of the Madison-Lenox. Really neat piece. Wish I could do that stuff.

Taken from Tribe's myspace website:

1971, in Detroit, trombonist Phil Ranelin and saxophonist Wendell Harrison started a band, a recording company, and a magazine, and called them the Tribe. This legendary political, social, and aesthetic collective also included key members like drummer Doug Hammond, trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, Pianist Harold McKinney plus musicians like Keyboardist David Durrah, Drummer Roy Brooks, Trumpeter Charles Moore, Drummer Billy Turner, Bassist Ed Pickens, The Mixed Bag, Keyboardist Charles Eubanks, Bassist Will Austin, Drummer Ron Jackson, percussionist Barbara Huby, Bass Clarinetist Aaron Neal, Keyboardist Keith Vreeland, Drummer George Davidson, Keyboardist Buddy Budson, Guitarist Ralph Armstrong, Bassist Lopez Leon, Synth player Daryl Dybka, Conga Player Charles Miles, Percussionist Billy Turner, Drummer Bud Spangler, Percussionist Lorenzo Brown, Vocalist Jeamel Lee, Poetry group The Black Messengers and many others. To sum up the collective in one it's founders own words - Phil Ranelin "We played each others music, shared musical ideas and in many ways had eternal influences on each other."

The collective released a number of highly collectable albums including records like Phil Ranelin's "Vibes From The Tribe," Marcus Belgrave's "Gemini II," Harold McKinney's "Voices And Rhythms Of The Creative Profile," Doug Hammond and David Durrah's "Sea of Nurnen," and Wendell Harrison's "An Evening with the Devil" - many of these releases have been reissued in the US, Europe and Japan by labels like Hefty, Soul Jazz and P Vine.

In early 2007, producer Carl Craig re-assembled the remaining core living original members of the Tribe collective - Wendell Harrison, Phil Ranelin, Marcus Belgrave and Doug Hammond in his Detroit Studio to record a brand new album.
