"seems like you are leaving out some stuff."

Yeah like maybe the residents armed with baseball bats are sick and tired of suburbanites in cabs looking for drugs. Not saying thats what they were doing, but that may have been the misunderstanding.

To say that there are no good neighborhoods in Detroit is simply stupid.

There are a couple of good neighborhoods in Detroit.

Detroit needs sound re-investments in the other not-so-good neighborhoods.

And a total overhaul of the "crappy-ones".

But WOW, What an interesting night.

The most important thing is that you are alive to tell the story.

How long did it take the police to respond?

Did anyone ever consider that this was not a random act?
The facts are not in, nor will they ever be. Save for a 3rd party eyewitness whom has not been named even then It's conjecture at best

Shit Happens here. It happens there. Shit happens everywhere. Hence the universal term, Shit Happens.
There's no conspiracy here, It's just the way it goes.

Furthermore the cab driver perpetuated the situation by speeding away at "100 miles an hour"
Please this is not the movies and there is never a need to speed away like a cat with It's ass is on fire, Stop Drop and Roll get an estimate of the situation and proceed accordingly

The Boy scout motto always applies when in an potentially dangerous situation and with the state of the union, thats pretty much all the time. Please get a grip and don't become a statistic, Knowledge is Power and your experience sounds like a good lesson and should be appreciated as such

Be Prepared. Your Life and the Other's around you Demand It

Thecarl,
That map is interesting. I can't believe how many violent crimes happen downtown. Anyone else surprised by that?

So if someone runs at you in the night with a baseball bat you're saying you should attempt to have a discussion with the person and see what the problem is? What if the person is just crazed on drugs and attacking for no reason?

The first 911 call should've had police intercepting and dealing with the situation. There is very little police protection in Detroit, you're on your own, run.

There are so many deer because they flee danger. Other species have gone extinct by being dumb. If you are in danger run.

something is wrong with this story.
so did the cops arrest anyone?
did you file a report?
how many drinks did you have that night?
"a guy with a bat in the street, who then got hit by the SUV was picked up by the SUV? then chased after you? very strange.

It seems as if the cabbie was the most sensible party involved. I've literally known (and drank with) several dozens of them over the years and know how they naturally would react. To wit: by getting the hell out of there and aim for a safe zone. Most cabs have radios, so they would alert their dispatchers, and they would immediately call the cops. [Nothing new for them, BTW.]

On the East Side, the Pointes fill the bill--any speeding cab pursued there by some car would surely tip off the cops there, and that manuever probably occurs far more often than any on DY would have reason to know.

Although this sucks, I hope this isn't her reason as to why she would leave. I mean a bunch of bad shit has happened to me in my city but I'm not afraid of it or filled with hatred.

I used to be mad at people who moved out of the city and be like why, why would you want to leave!? But then as I found out more about older cities in general, they are pretty horrible to live in. High crime, terrible public schools, lazy teachers, lazy cops, tiny old homes, blight, poor services. It's true of nearly every city. Milwaukee, Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, St. Louis. If you don't like to deal with others or with any adversity then she should definitely leave. Most people would rather be safe and bored than unsafe and living an overall exciting life.

OK (is that better?)

Anyway, it happened in my neighborhood. Morross and I94.

I'm not leaving out anything..we are still a little freaked out. The cops harassed my girlfriend asking her why she was trying to steal the guy's car? She was like "What?" I drive a BMW X5, and don't need to steal anything from anyone. We were just on our way home.

And by the way, we all live in Detroit. We are not suburbanites.

They did not arrest them, but we are pressing charges.

By the way, the cab fare was $40.00. I hope my friends tipped him well.

You know, I just told my story. What happened to me and my friends last night, and there are a bunch of idiots on here with very idiotic comments.

Yes, it was weird, that's why we are still freaked out. We were not wasted either. The reason the cabby was speeding was because the mother fuckers were CHASING us in their SUV. We didn't know if they had a gun...but even more so, we didn't even know why they were after us.

These were not young kids....these were grown ass men.

I am so tempted just to take a ride down Casino where it happened, just to take another look at the mother fucker, but he might be on some shit.

Blksoul...I do not do drugs.

Lefty..I don't need to make up anything. Although chatting with you all is cool...I don't need that much attention to sit and make things up.

By the way, the Grosse Pointe cops called for back up and they were there immediately. The Detroit cops came shortly after. They even had someone in the back of their police car they had just arrested. I found that very interesting. Then again, we were on the phone screaming to the 911 operator.

A traveler approached a great city. he stopped to talk with an old man sitting at the bus stop.

"What are the people like in this city" asked the traveler.
"How were the people from where you came" questioned the old man.
Pretty much hell on earth rotten bunch of criminals to say the least, remarked the traveler.
You'll find them the same here responded the old man

A second traveler soon happened by. He too was on his way to the great city and stopped to ask the old man about the people he would soon meet there.

The old man repeated the question he asked the first traveler. "How were the people from where you came" To this the second traveler responded, "They are a fine bunch. Generous, kind, compassionate."
You'll find the same here remarked the old man.

And on it goes, perception is everything

looking at the murder map for detroit - 1999 was the most recent i could find - it's difficult to identify any area in detroit where a murder did not occur in a one-mile radius. looking at the violent crime map, numbers were much higher than i expected throughout the city. and yes, i was surprised by the number of violent crimes and murders in - and near - the downtown area.

He told the cops that my friend looked like his ex-girlfriend and that she was trying to steal his car. Which I did not understand. The cab only stopped at intersections...we did not make any stops. So how could we be trying to steal a car? And we are in a cab?
