per the "debate" on the mass transit thread here is something some of you may or may not know about. http://walkscore.com/ I put in my area ..... about a 60.....and then I put in an area of Detroit that rated higher. What is not reflected is safety. The area of Detroit I put in is not as safe or even safe to walk in. |

My area was in the 70s and I have had no crime issues. Of course that would make me a liar with an agenda. 2006 crime stats from the FBI. Violent crimes per 1000 residents. Detroit: 24.19 Saginaw: 29.85 |

Funny how this tool classifies places. According to this places in the Georgetown area in AA considered restaurants are: Anthony's Gourmet Pizza (carryout place) Marco's Pizza (carryout place) Big Ten Market (wtf) Mr. Pizza (carryout place) But hey, Big Ten Burrito, Frasers and an Asian place are nearby. |

The website itself admits there are some flaws in the method they use. It's just meant to approximate walkability by using several common types of destinations. Safety is not the only thing they don't take into account. |

The tool is fairly non-sensical but I was just making a point and being a smartass. A double bonus for me. I put in 55 West Canfield and it gets an 89. We all know that is not realistic. |

My neighborhood got 46 but a lot of the things they think are there aren't. I wish I had a grocery store a block away. I guess it's their office. |

That was fun, for a minute. I got a 40, and was somewhat surprised (and sort of annoyed) that the funky-ass party store on my corner was highlighted. I realize that several things go into the computation of the score, but if my area is a 40, there must be a lot of 5 through 25's around Detroit. |

This is old, but since I just bought a new condo it was fun to find out that it rated a 93. Also, my in-laws' place in London, Ontario rated a 2 (pretty harsh, but it is in a sprawl-division). (Message edited by upinottawa on October 10, 2007) |

I did this before for my address and got a 97 (I think) but this time I got a 98. |

63 for my area of SCS. I'm grossed out that they could ever consider 7-11 a grocery store. I (almost) find that far more flawed than not taking into account things like crime. |

A 54 for my home in West Village. I guess the .53mi to the nearest bar hurts. |

Every time this comes up I have to point out that it seems to consider things on the other side of 696 from a house "walkable". Oh yeah! Bring your batman boomarang and swing accross the canyon. Or, just take a quick walk accross I-75 to your favorite restaurant! |

"I'm grossed out that they could ever consider 7-11 a grocery store. I (almost) find that far more flawed than not taking into account things like crime." In the town of Springfield, it's like their 24-7 Supermarket. |

Someone has yet to explain the relationship between cirme rate and walkability. Was Manhattan not still walkable in the 80s? |

Run a search at 1 Woodward or 1 Riverside Drive, Windsor. Apparently people can walk on water.... |

Old news and a somewhat flawed system but always interesting to play around with. My place in downtown Detroit got a 92. My old place in Ann Arbor got a 37. My parents acreage in the exurbs got a 2. |
