Anyone with a video camera should record what it's doing right now. It has a lighting scheme that makes it look like the hotel tower is on fire, as well as other cool stuff. I'll see if I can get a decent picture.

This was shot by my wife. You're going to have to imagine this in person, it's a real interesting view.

Well, I may just be drunk typing, but how is it that a website so dedicated to the downfall of Illitch is butt-humping his wife over a light display? Go to a real casino. Go to MGM. And tip my girl well.

this will make a perfect tourist attraction, the exterior of MCC with all its metal curves that will be installed any day now.

Speaking of which, aren't they opening in like 2 weeks? Has anyone seen the exterior lately (of the gaming areas)? It's still not finished. It's all exposed insulation. The brickwork needs to be completed around the entire addition. I wonder if they are going to wrap it up in time.

Sure it's going to make a perfect tourist attraction... If they don't scared away by all the bombed out buildings and homeless in the area.

Granted, I live in the area, but I have to wonder if anyone would consider this specific area a vacation destination.

I don't think they're putting brick over the tyvek. It looks like glass, metal and neon, similar to the hotel. There is a rendering at www.motorcitycasino.com but it only shows up sometimes.

you know those lights on your stereo that are green at the bottom and flicker upwards yellow and red in sync with the volume? (I don't know the right term) The whole building's scheme is dancing like that. I am pretty sure that is what they are trying to make it look exactly like.

Wow! Cool video of the blazing wall!

Could that be due to the fires in Cali?

*nod to the person who wondered that about the red sunset sky we had the other day*

I don't know if anybody saw the MCC last night, but it was going buck-wild with the lights again. It had card suits (clubs, diamonds, spades and hearts)as tall as the height of the entire hotel circling the hotel in a loop. It was CRAZY looking!

So, what I learned was that that the lights can form pictures and patterns. The metallic siding they are putting on right now looks cool, too. I am falling in love with this casino more and more every day.

Look like we will see another light show from the hotel on Tuesday, and the lights will become permanent in our skyline thereafter...

Great. Perfect for the current generation of video-game raised, short-attention-span, sensory-overloaded people.

Chip Foose designed the roof? That's interesting. I thought he pretty much only designed custom cars.

They need webcams -- one for the lights and one over a craps table.

I've been looking out my window all night. This building rocks. This is instantly going to become something that people will always remember and associate with Detroit.

speaking of elaborate lighting schemes. Whatever happened to Kwame's big plan to put colored lights and search lights on all the building downtown to create a vividly colored skyline? Read this in the paper a few times about 3-4 years ago.

Is it just me or is Motorcity Casino kind of a hodge podge of tacky? Classic Wonderbread factory with cheap looking facade tacked on, retro 50's car interior/exterior design, neon light show, etc.

Nothing short of the Book Cadillac would get me to pay 300 bucks a night, but if I was so inclined the MGM eludes a much higher quality image for the same $. It seems like if I was in Vegas in 1975 I'd find the Motorcity and today I would find the MGM.
