I don't know if anyone noticed but they've finally updated the GoogleEarth images of Detroit. They finally have a completed Campus Martius and have extended the highly detailed image data out to Clark Park and Mt. Elliot.

And it's perfect timing. I just pulled an image off of there the other day for a school project and now noticed it in higher detail.

They did not update it yet at maps.google.com, however.

Has anyone found the boundaries of this new update yet?

I wonder if they archive the old images?

The one beef I have about Google Earth is that you can't determine the age of any particular part of the image. Or have I missed the addition of that feature?

If you zoom out it looks like it is roughly bounded by 696, 275 and the river going south to the southern tip of Grosse Ile.

I think some freighters disappeared. :-(

I like to break things. I used to use the mouse wheel to plummet down into Google Earth from great altitudes at great speed to crash through into the underground of Detroit. This time the same technique caused an inverted image (note the sky at the bottom of this image):

It's as if my tilted aircraft, flying toward Windsor, rolled 180°.

The fact that there's an angle between "Woodward" and "Ave." there is intriguing. Why would a graphical effect be correllated to a word break?

Jimaz, sounds like you need to be on staff at Google in the Quality Assurance department. Your "I like to break things" enthusiasm bodes well in the QA field. You may have exposed a reliability deficiency.

If you GoogleEarth Rachel, Nevada, you'll get to see the giant Colonel Sanders

"Kentucky Fried Chicken reckons it's the first company whose logo is visible from space after piecing together a huge mosaic of Colonel Sanders in the Nevada desert. The pic of the Colonel comprises 65,000 one-foot-square painted tiles laid out on a plot near Rachel, Nevada."

Where the seam is between the new and old pics just north of 12 mile it is interesting to see the subdivision being built but then suddenly stop. The new building on Van Dyke on the GM tech center is half complete and half under construction!
