Does anyone know of any bars in metro Detroit that sell Shiner Bock? I'd prefer if they were in Detroit and not the burbs, but anywhere within a 30-minute drive of the D is fine. Heck, even any specialty beer stores that might carry it.
Thanks a million thank-yous in advance.

My advice, call the Tap Room, Charlevoix, Detroit. If anybody has it, they will.

Shiner's website indicates they don't distribute to Michigan (yet).

http://www.shiner.com/about/fa q.html#

Scroll down to their distribution map. Closest state seems to be the Buckeye state.

OK, then. New question: Anyone know of a place in Toledo or on the Ohio-Michigan border that sells Shiner Bock? :-)

Try Cost Plus/World Market. Sometimes, they have out-of-state regional beers. On occasion, I get Dixie beer there.

I think that I've seen it at Ode's Big Ten in East Lansing.
I guess that Toledo is actually closer to Detroit though....

To answer your question:

No. Nobody knows of any bars in metro Detroit that sell Shiner Bock.

I hope that is helpful.

Thanks for cutting to the chase, Dabirch.
The closest place that sells it appears to be a place in Toledo called Anderson's on Talmadge.

Tell your friend at Atwater that Pittsburgh has an "h" at the end of it!

Have to get back down there for a cold one soon.

If it isn't distributed here it won't be in any bars and even the Berkley Front won't be able to get it legally.

That being said, when I am in Texas I drink Fat Tire Ale from Colorado. It is as common as Labatt's is here and is far more flavorful than Labatt's or Shiner.

Actually, I think Shiner is a poor example of a Bock but them's fighting words in Texas. They love that stuff and are loyal to that beer.

heh! i just called berkley front (@11:57pm). the person who answered the phone said they don't have it, and she'd never heard of it. i'm still not ruling out the possibility they couldn't get it. perhaps a call during daytime hours would be more informative...but it's most probably a lone star long shot.

fat tire ale is the best, got hooked on it at the red lion in vail colorado, they don't sell it here in michigan that i know of (which is strange, cause on the label they have the mich 10cent return), bought a few cases to bring home with me last time i was in missouri, i don't think its east of the missippi river.....

that stuff rocks.....

FWIW, Anderson's is worth a visit--it's an old farm and lawn equipment store that has expanded vastly and branched out into food, with good deals on things like big bags of grapefruit for the winter. It is very near I-475, but you need to be going westbound to take the Talmadge exit (which is fine if you come into the city on I-75). Turn right after exiting.

The 3 major beer distributors in Detroit do not carry it. You won't get it in a bar unless the owner of the bar gets it delivered special.

Shiner will eventually make it here, I'm sure. They refuse (or used to refuse) to contract out their brewing to the larger companies in order to increase their distribution area.

I've been waiting patiently since I moved from Houston. At that time it was strictly sold only in TX. It will make it some day.

Heard there was a store in Hamtramck off Carpenter west of Conant that
still offers Goebel. A most delicious beer suitable for all occasions.

Hi again everyone --
When I called The Anderson's early last week, they told me that although they usually carry Shiner Bock, they (actually their wholesaler) were currently out-of-stock.
Leave us your phone number, they said, and we'll call you when we get some in.
They called me on Tuesday. I went down yesterday and purchased five cases (the cost is a buck a bottle, even in bulk). I bought a lot because Saginaw is a lot farther from Toledo than is Detroit and I don't want to do the 260-mile round trip more than once a month or so.
Anyhow, call Joe or Jim in the wine department at The Anderson's on Talmadge in Toledo and they'll be happy to order up some Shiner Bock or any other beer distributed in Ohio.
And tell 'em johnfromsaginaw sent you.
John
Sluggin' down Shiners with both hands. Typing with my nose.
