What's the best place for breakfast that's fairly affordable (re: NOT the Breakfast House on Woodward)? I know about Honest John's. Anyone have any other favorites?

Vivio's -- the breakfast I had there recently was great, everything tasted like it came off of the farm wagon yesterday (because it probably did) and you can get killer bloodies and a shot for those mornings after you've been over-served

Do any of the coney islands do a decent job? I did Leo's in Comerica Park a few mornings... can't remember what I thought, though!

There is no doubt in my mind that the best breakfast in Detroit is the "Campus Restaurant" on Cass across from WSU. I ate there again this morning, and the farmer's omlet confirmed that it just might be the best affordable food in The D.

Farmers Market gets my vote

I used to love New Center Eatery. Chicken and Waffles for $5.50. I went there for breakfast last Sunday and the price had gone up to $8.50. I know it's not affordable, but I want to try the Sunday brunch at the St.Regis.

Any one of the Original Pancake Houses.

Paper thin potato pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice and some of the best pancakes around. If you're really famished and feeling brave, give a go at one of their dutch ovens that are monstrous. Not cheap but mighty good.

Has anyone else been to the Campus Restaurant? I cant believe there has not been more support for this place! The omlets are out of this world. They are anything but your typical flat 2 egg omlet...I swear there was a whole pound of stuff in mine yesterday.

It all depends on what or when you consider breakfast to be, but given my late-nites downtown working at bars & clubs back in the day, breakfast always came before bed, because by the time I woke up it was time for lunch.

That said, I cast my vote for Plaka, Plaka, Plaka! every time! 24/7, they never fail.

You got that right, Crash, dunno how I forgot the many, many hours spent in that joint.

Plaka does win in the most unique change in scenery every hour after two a.m., along with great food at reasonable prices. I'd give Plaka the best people watching award for early morning breakfast joints.

I'll give a nod to Brooklyn Street!

But as a note, if you've got a crew, it might not be the spot to go to. I'd take a group of 4 max. I've been in there with 6, but it takes a minute to get served. Not a big deal if you aren't in a hurry.

With a crowd - head to Honest Johns

3955 Woodward Ave
Detroit, MI 48201

Let your finger's do the walking. They used to be open on Sundays (which is when I went). It's been a long while. The reference to salmon patties reminded me.

That's so offensive. You can go to IHOP, Original House of Pancakes, Denny's, or good ol' Coneyville for a delish breakfast. You don't need a Waffle House to have a good breakfast!

L. Georges on Six Mile and Schaefer, just go during the day because it is a zoo at night.

American (I think) Coney Island on Grand River where it meets MLK and Trumbull.

Akbars occasionally on Fenkell in between Wyoming and Myers.

And yes the Original House of Pancake restaurants are awesome.

Janet's Lunch on Kercheval right on the Detroit - Grosse Pointe Park border.

Seating is very cozy- it is one big lunch counter, so there is alway the chance you can saddle up next to someone interesting while you enjoy your eggs. And it is cheap.

This is a serious thread, breakfast in a city indicates vitality, i like these choices here.
Bagley Grille on Bagley
dulys
Eastern Market, etc.
Has anyone else been to "Bush's Garden of Eating
No but I would love to eat some...

Eating breakfast at a restaurant is the best way to start a day! Always productive.

Based on this thread, I tried Honest Johns' breakfast on Sunday. My omelette was GREAT, hash browns ok and french toast yucky....There doesn't seem to be a distinction between smoking and non-smoking and after a couple of hours of eating and watching the game, I had to leave because the smoke was overwhelming. So, to make a long story short....I would go back for the omelette and maybe get it to go...LOL I'll have to try Zeff's, Brooklyn Grill and Eastern Market in the near future.

L. George's is absolutely great, I could (and have) eaten their grilled chicken salad for breakfast. Everything is fresh and the prices are normal. It's a shame that the Betty Ross 2 closed their former location in the D..but the drive to Mad. Hts. is worth that tasty country ham! mmmmm.....
