Chrysler is simply doing what GM started doing about five years ago when it slashed all(almost?) of their contracted IT over a couple/three years. At that time, GM was the largest user of contracted IT workers in Michigan. In GM's cases, they also made their cuts in November and December.

Damn, A friend of mine just got a contract position with the MOPAR division. Hope the lay offs stay withing the Chrysler division for his sake.

some NON-union guys that were brought in to my plant to work on some tooling that we cant do (because we dont have enough man power to even maintain the plant!) just got the axe...

probably not what you all were talking about but 'contractors' were 'sacked'...

the area manager made this deal so he can get a job with the 'outside shop' in 6 months when he retires. they have failed to perform as advertised, they have failed to provide build materials as stipulated way back in the spring when the contract was let and they are 'saving' the company all of $100,000.00. until you figure they are running about a month behind and have yet to bring in the contracted supplies...

2 were fired this week for not being 'in good' with the boss and another was threatened with firing for taking 3 hours to do what the boss thought should only be a 2 hour job...

im sure these guys are happy being non-union...

Most of the layoffs are supposed to be in accounting, engineering, and a few others sprinkled here and there. They've downsized IT so much that there isn't much room for more.

So far I still have my job :-)
