1. The first of November marks the Day of the Dead in Mexican culture, and a four-day festival honoring the deceased and celebrating life starts today in Detroit's Mexicantown. The 13th annual "Dia de Muertos" fiesta, which runs through Sunday, takes place at the Mexicantown Mercado and Ford Plaza, at Bagley Avenue and 21st Street. Besides authentic food and crafts, the festivities include walking tours, lectures on the significance of the Day of the Dead and a new culinary tour ($20 per person) of Mexicantown on Saturday and Sunday.
