Karmanos' vision for the futurequote:"I ain't retiring for a while," Karmanos told me in an interview last week, suggesting that the computer software firm he founded with two friends in 1973 could soon be worth seven or eight times its current value. Karmanos was flush with optimism after delivering a double-barreled shot of good Compuware news to the markets:
- First, Compuware beat expectations with a 51% increase in profit to $37.4 million for its quarter ended Sept. 30, a welcome bounce back from sales and profit declines three months earlier that drove its stock price down from $12 in July to $7.47 in late August. Last week, the stock price surpassed $10 before closing Friday at $9.89 a share.
- Next, Karmanos let it be known that Compuware is actively exploring a separate public stock offering for its Covisint subsidiary. "We're trying to create some buzz on this because it is a multibillion-dollar idea," he said.

"One more reason for Karmanos' good spirits -- his Carolina Hurricanes hockey team is off to a strong start, leading its division in the NHL's Eastern Conference." Go 'canes! |

Unfortunately Compuware stock has been on a yo-yo ride since Y2K when their stock reached nearly $40/share. About 5 years ago I bought some at $7, sold it at $14, bought some more 4 years ago at $6, and sold it again 3 years ago at $13. |

On a related topic, does anyone happen to know the details of the tax credit package that the city of Detroit offered Compuware to move downtown and when the credit expires? |
