Inspired by the Lager House thread, let's hear some local bands some of us may be missing out on. The Gypsy Strings are always a good show. They play multiple times a week throughout town. http://www.myspace.com/gypsyst ringsofdetroit This is "gypsy jazz" music. A little New Orleans flavor. Who else has recommendations? |

Natives of the New Dawn. They are in L.A. til Thanksgiving. But great local band with many hints of Detroit Rock and Roll, Motown, and hiphop all rolled into one. |

Y'all missed the Blue Sunrays. Awesome trippy post-punk indie band. Their posthumous final recording "sunset gracious broadcast" is getting airplay at RPRadio: http://media.recordingproject. com:8000/rp.m3u ...and available for free download at: http://www.recordingproject.co m/media/select.php?mediaid=47 Check out the tracks from their earlier EP, Katy Bugs in the Sugar Bowl, at the second link. My 6-year-old granddaughter's favorite CD, though I think they were targeting a slightly different demographic, LOL. Maybe I'll post stuff about my own band when we suck less. ;) |

If you want to talk about local bands that are no longer, the Ingham County Regulars were an awesome old-school rockin' country band. Their album is fantastic, I listen all the time. You can still buy it here. http://cdbaby.com/cd/inghamcr |

Does anyone know of any good local r&b groups? This would encompass the "neo-soul" branded groups/acts, like Dwele. Not necessarily "classic" r&b, i.e. Motown-type, but more contemporary. I already know about the jazz acts at Floods, Berts, and Bakers. Not looking for jazz. Looking for r&b. |

Hey look, what a great opportunity to plug my band! King Mellowman and Mellow Runnings tonight at the Cadieux Cafe. Big, sassy reggae band with awesome musicians and the hardest-working bandleader in show biz (RIP James Brown.) Also a big fan of the gypsy jazz. Hot Club of Detroit's my fave. |

Diehard, are you the remaining members of Jo-Nabb reggae band? I knew Craig pretty well before he died. Sad to see him go. |

Even Exchange at Bart's is pretty good. During the Ferndale Blues Fest I was beginning to lose hope anybody was going to play some actual blues until they went on. |

Big Jeff - Mellowman did play with Jo-Nab for some time. Actually, he's been with just about EVERY reggae band in town. No, I never got to play with Craig. Quite a loss. |

Diehard....Thanks for asking; Steve, Aaron, John, and Greg dissolved FORGE a few years ago - they now perform as DECIBILT - all new & original music, plus a couple of dynamite covers from time to time. |

JohnLodge- I'll definitely second the Gypsy Strings. Another good time show of a totally different sort: the Amino Acids. Nasty, raw, alien surf punk. Definitly fun show though. http://www.theaminoacids.com http://myspace.com/theaminoaci ds |
