http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071128/SPORTS08/71128024 BY VINCE ELLIS FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER The logo for the NCAA men’s basketball 2009 Final Four, which will be played at Ford Field, was unveiled Wednesday at the Renaissance Center. When Bill Ryan was asked what the flames in the image represented, he was quick to answer. “You know, I have no idea,” said Ryan, the executive director of the Detroit Local Organizing Committee, “ … so I will tell you that it means we’re one of the hottest sports towns in the country.” |

I like it. Everyone better like it because we'll be seeing it quite a bit as Raymar Morgan and Chris Allen lead Michigan State to the national title in front of the home crowd! there is no doubt in my mind that Tom Izzo had this event in mind when retooling the squad and recruiting for the next few years. Bill Ryan gets the award for the best thinking on his feet in a press conference...kick ass Bill. If we meet, I'm buying you a drink for that one. |

Haha good one, Detroitstar. It's distinctive. I've seen alot of bland logos. |

The blue coming off the tire looks like flames. Obviously the NCAA is making fun of the fact that Detroit has a lot of arson and a well known devil's night history. What a bunch of jerks! |

quote:"It looks like a tire, lol." You're a quick one. Damn, I thought it was an inner tube. I thought it was a commentary on the great tubing on the Detroit river. |

If the flames were not there, it could be seen as a record, and a play on Detroit's rich musical history, in addition to the whole tire thing. |

If it were a record they would probably be making fun of the fact that we are so behind that times that we probably still think records are modern technology. |

Looks to me like they just did a quick adaptation of the Wings logo and changed the color to Ford Field blue. They should have used a poker chip instead! |

If not the Wing's logo, they borrowed from the Flame's logo. |

I consider it an average sports logo. It needs more character. The 2005 All-Star & Super Bowl XL ones were better than this one. |
