quote:

Police used a battering ram to break down an apartment door and arrest a woman they say grabbed food from a pizza delivery man but failed to pay him.

Jessica Gray, 19, of Eastpointe was arrested Wednesday after she and the occupants of her apartment refused to pay for a delivery of pizza, ribs, chicken, shrimp and a soda valued at $17.18, police say.

Morons. Getting arrested over $20???

This is not an over-reaction. If the police are available they need to send these kinds of messages. You can't commit a small crime without fear of police action. I wish all communities had enough police to respond to these situations.

I think this story illustrates why some businesses choose to locate in the suburbs rather than Detroit. Crimes can, and do, occur throughout the region; but the big variable is the response of the police. They are much more likely to respond in a timely manner to a "minor" crime, such as this one, in many of the suburbs.

I deliver pizza on the east side, as well as the surrounding inner ring suburbs. This story made my day. Delivering pizza is a scary job, but thankfully I work for a pizzeria whose owner cares about the safety of his employees. We haven't had any incidents aside from counterfeit money in quite a few years (knock on wood). The last time a driver was robbed at gunpoint of $18 near Novarra and Hayes we didn't even bother making a police report because we knew nothing would be done about it. We've had to cut off quite a few blocks throughout the years, but there are still many nice areas in NE Detroit and many generous people.

I did k-12 in east detroit and its not all that crazy over there just white trash. I worked in pizza places all over eastpointe growing up and we always shortened our delivery zone it ended up being nothing south of 8mile.

"delivery of pizza, ribs, chicken, shrimp and a soda valued at $17.18" That is actually a pretty good deal to get all that food for $17.18! But as mentioned in another thread, you must punish for petty crimes!

What about booking the rest of them for eating stolen food? The whole household are criminals.

jjaba worries that the evidence locker will stink as the case drags on through the Courts. Imagine the evidence when the case hits the Supreme Court.

Is there a field sobriety test for shrimp, chicken and the meat lover's pizza combo?

Luckily, no cops were injured. Evidently, the women didn't pack heat, just food stuffed down their mouths. These women give a bad name to The Pointes. Do we know if they used the red pepper packets?

jjaba, LOL.

I'd love to see the looks on their faces as the door came tumbling down.

Along with the coupon flier these pizza joints in EP need to start attaching this story to the pizza boxes.

"She was rough when she took it from him," Detective Lt. Leo Borowsky told The Detroit News. "And she was large enough where he didn't want to fight her."

She probably was so startled that she let out a bigass fart, effectively killing the responding officers. Sounds like she was a big old gally who could have saved $4,080-some dollars by just paying what she owed to stuff her oversized cheeks.

Eastpointe cops are known to be a little bit hardass. Still, Eastpointe has a better quality of life and better housing stock than, say, Roseville or south Warren.

Eastpointe cops have a right to be hardass, and a little edgy. I believe that back in Sept. a Buscemi's pizza store on Gratiot in Eastpointe was held up by two worthless scum bags, killing the one employee and injuring another.

"Eastpointe is a slum."

LOL! They have slummy pizza makers and a slummy police department. However it's the nicest suburb along 8 Mile that borders Detroit.

Eastpointe is nicer than Ferndale?

At the least, Ferndale has more character, has a real downtown, and is much pricier.

Schools aren't too good in Ferndale, but I would wager than schools in Eastpointe are as bad or worse.

Yes, but they're not seeing as much as a influx from Detroit as Ferndale and Eastpointe is wealthier. Eastpointe's downtown is fairly decent though in my opinion. They do have retail and what not like Ferndale.

Where are you pulling your info from Detroitrise? Specifically, I'm wondering where you got the stat that Eastpointe is wealthier than Ferndale.

Thanks!

Atleast "East Detroit" is still retained by the schools. The moniker "East Pointe" is so racist, eh.

jjaba, looking for East Pointe in the "8 Mile Rd." movie.
