Some of you might enjoy these vintage photos from the Wolverines Sports Club archives. Most were taken in Detroit, including Belle Isle and Downtown. There's a classic crash from a velodrome in the mix.

The Wolverine Sports Club is still going strong. Their web site is http://www.lmb.org/wsc/

TJ is still out there riding. He was in the shop 2 weeks ago. Most of the photos are pre Greektown TdM.Photos from Chandler Park, Hines, Velodrome and some downtown are major parts of the photo show.

A friend of mine is a contemporary of TJ (whom I run into occasionally at the Dakota inn) I showed him this slide show--he is in some of the pictures. He was delighted to see this. He's 73 and very fit, rides every day he can.

For those so inclined, here's T.J.'s 75th birthday party invite...

Your presence is requested in order to properly celebrate, in grand style, the 75th birthday of the Wolverine Sports Club's most prolific and intrepid character, T.J. Hill. Set aside Wednesday, December 19th to accompany 75 Wolverines in celebration of a lifetime of cycling and song, and join T.J. for this fun filled evening (where else?) at the Dakota Inn Rathskeller.

For those of you who have joined in past celebrations, you need read no further, as you'll no doubt forego any previously planned holiday parties in favor of this raucous evening of merriment in traditional German style. For the rest of you don't miss this opportunity to congratulate T.J. on a long and fulfilling life in the pursuit of that which makes him happiest; riding, writing about riding, and more riding.

The Dakota Inn is located on John R. just north of Six Mile Rd. There is free guarded parking, and the entire Rathskeller will be dedicated to helping T.J. celebrate this milestone. Got a favorite beer mug? Bring that along as well. Also, if you're a connoisseur of authentic German food, plan on coming early, perhaps around 7pm, to enjoy your favorite knackwurst, sauerkraut or other delicious entree. The merriment and singing will begin officially around 8pm and continue until the beer taps have been drained and the last bratwurst has been devoured.

As always, T.J. insists that revelers come dressed in proper cycling attire. Anyone arriving in violation of the evening's dress code will be properly re-dressed by T.J. himself. Please R.S.V.P. by December 15 to T.J.

Let's all come out to honor T.J. on December 19th!

That was fun! The street photos brought back memories, the way we were. That was quite a crash, ouch! And, where can I get a helmet like that?

I just uploaded some photos from T.J.’s 75th birthday party at the Rathskeller.

The songs were great, the Blatz was cold and everyone seemed to be doing “just right.”
