"We were devastated by a snow storm! It was great!" It's kind of an oxymoron but yes, it was still a great time despite the horrendous conditions. I was really amazed that year that despite the amount of snowfall, the people that came out (brave souls that they were) really embraced it rather than stay away because of the weather. It really shows how hardy we can be if we put our minds to it. |

The Winter Blast the year of the storm was perfect! Walking around was fun, and the snow was appropriate. I cant think of anything worse than having a Winter Blast and the temperature is 50..... |

It's funny to me that this is an issue with casinos downtown. Not that they are beholden to anyone, but this would be such a paltry sum for them to pay for some publicity, and shame on GM and Compuware. |

GM & Compuware have been taking a beating - both in revenue & on Wall Street. Would you have them fire an employee or two in order to make up the $100K shortfall? |

While I agree to a point, if spending $100K is going to hurt them, they are in a lot of trouble. Of course, no one should lose a job over sponsoring an event, but isn't GM one of largest companies in the world, last I checked? I threw in Compuware since most of this event takes place on their front porch. |

Starbucks could stand to pitch in as well, since they have a store nearby. Also if I was outside freezing and saw "Starbucks" all over everything it would definitely trigger a need for a double dirty nonfat vanilla chai latte! |

F that. Get more sponsors! John Witz has no problems getting plenty of sponsors for the successful Arts Beats & Eats each year. But because Winter Blast isn't artsy-fartsy and is in Detroit, sponsors aren't biting? Lame. |

Good idea, Melody. Good point, Islandman. If you divide that 100k over among downtowns 2, 3, or 4 largest corporations, you have an amount that basically does not show up on the ledger. Even 100k is not much money. No one is going to lose a job over a one-time outlay of this nature. Be real. |

This is great news! I am disappointed to hear that it will not go up monroe, connecting to Greektown...but that is a sacrifice I'm willing to accept to have this event go on. |

I have to ask, what do you think will happen to the Winter Blast when Cadillac Centre in the Monroe block opens up? I will gladly give up the snow slides for a new development! How about snowmobile races around the new building? ;) |

There's also a listing of the acts in todays Detroit News. I played it last year, and the lack of a website/information was frustrating. |

Anybody know if they are having the Winter Blast bar crawl again this year? The no information link on the winter blast web site has disappeared. |

Me and the ladyfriend had a fantastic time last night! We are going to bring our own bad of marshmallows and skewers though...$3 for a marshmallow is a bit pricy if you ask me. I was glad to see the great numbers of people there lst night. I hope the cold does not scare them away tonight or tomorrow. |

Yeah Irish, we enjoyed the pink floyd tribute too! I think our favorite group of the night was "Persuasion". They did a cover of plenty of popular music from nsync to the temptations, all in a r&b/jazz style. |

"Also if I was outside freezing and saw "Starbucks" all over everything it would definitely trigger a need for a double dirty nonfat vanilla chai latte!" If you were freezing outside- you would not need to see Starbucks all over everything if there is a close location. Nice try for a sponsor pitch. It would be better to say if Starbucks has actual kiosks on site scattered about a need would be triggered.... |
