"For The Record, that is still outside the immediate CBD." Sorry, didn't realize that was a requirement. |

"Sorry, didn't realize that was a requirement." Sciencefair, maybe not you, but others would prefer it if they could walk from their condos on a cold, snowy night and stroll of couple blocks to the grocer without having to drive a car (or walk a long distance). I think those grocers in Lafayette Park are just far enough for car travel. (Message edited by DetroitRise on November 16, 2007) |

I'm just saying it's a start. What are the borders of the immediate CBD? |

I will be able to walk to the Grocer in Brush Park, so it will be beneficial to some of us. |

The Expressways basically (I-75, I-375, M-10). Although, Midtown, Post Office, New Center, and Lafayette Park are considered Greater Downtown (bordered by Trumbell, Grand Blvd, Jefferson, The Lodge, and The Chrysler. |

"New Hockey Arena to be Revolutionary" Mike Ilitch announced plans today for a new home for his Red Wings. "We have decided that it would be best for the NHL, the Red Wings and Detroit to do away with the old, stale concept of a hockey arena. We are going to build, with the City of Detroit, the first MallArena in the United States. Instead of the usual club seats, every store will have check out registers with a view of the ice. We are currently negotiating with Harrod's to be the anchor tenant. The facility will also boast an indoor water park, with slides bringing the guests right into the hockey action" |

Hockey Arena to Transform Belle Isle Mike Ilitch announced plans today for a new home for his Red Wings. "After taking into consideration several proposals read on the internet forum 'DetroitYES', a place where many local business leaders get ideas for future projects," Ilitch said, "we've decided to make a new Red Wings Arena a part of a Belle Isle Amusement Park and Entertainment Mecca. The Belle Isle Amusement Park will also serve as a transit hub for a light rail system to Jupiter, where we will begin construction on Detroit 2.0, starting with a Cheesecake Factory." |

Yeah, fine, great, Mikey, but where's it gonna be? (How would that slide work? I'm guessing it's an ice slide so water doesn't get on the rink ice, but then if it is won't people stick to it since they'll be wet from the water park? Or do they have to pad up for the slide and being on the rink?) |

John Lodge, I love your extra-terrestrial Cheesecake Factory idea. I can't wait to try my first slice of "The Moon is made of Green Cheese" Cake! YUM! |

Here's a thought that may or may not have been previously pondered. Why not put Joe Louis 2 where Briggs/Nevin/Tiger Stadium now sits.... Sure it's a tad outside the CBD, but a new stadium in corktown could do a lot more for the area than a new stadium behind the fox. It would be another stepping stone of revitalization as well as a relatively close destination for the Motor City and MGM crowds. Just a thought... |

Corktown residents DO NOT want another stadium (not to mention countless dirt and gravel parking lots) in their neighborhood. |

Cass Corridor needs the gentrification. The Eddystone et al is beyond saving, and think of the good that could come to places like the Masonic Temple, Cass Tech and the old Kresge Administration Bldg. Plus, as a bonus, lots of places to park. It's just that Ilitch doesn't own all the lots, so my guess, knowing him, is that it won't go where it will do the city the most good, only where it will do his pockets the most good. |

I'd place my money on the arena announcement, as it is long overdue. I would rather be surprised by a BoA regional HQ announcement. |

A new arena in corktown would kill nearly any possibility of development of the empty lots. Closer to the Fox (either behind, or to a lesser extent, across the freeway) will help the businesses already in the area that already cater to sports fans through the baseball off-season. As for the announcement, I agree that it will probably be an arena. Ilitch's response at the Quicken announcement (this is Dan's day) seemed promising - I would have expected 'No decision has been made.' |

Unidentified sources state that the new Kwame announcement in 2 weeks will be that he is revoking the Detroit constitution and declaring himself "Mayor for Life" - so when he states that he "...won't be seeking a third term as Mayor...", that's because he will be crowning himself King of Detroit. The project he's suggesting is turning the Michigan Central Station into his "life term" palace which will be called: "Kwame's Palace of Earthly Delights" and surrounded by a bodyguard force. Also, Monday will be re-named: "Kilpatrick Day" and the Kingdom of Detroit will not abide by any Daylight Savings Time corrections... |

Arena won't go in Corktown cuz Ilitch doesn't own any land and can't get $20 a car for parking near it. Have no fear, Corktown. |

I'm so excited. Remember when he announced the redevelopment of Michigan Central Station? Remember when it was rotting and looked hopeless? Man, that guy doesn't go off half-cocked when he announced something; he gets stuff done! (not) |

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. He's going to announce the biggest thing to happen to Detroit since the Greektown Parking Garage. Another garage which will break ground at Gratiot and 375. |
