Bear with me everyone--Not a big casino goer, but supportive nonetheless... Am I correct in assuming that the casinos gaming rooms are primarily open 24 hours? And if so, do they all serve alcoholic drinks past 2 a.m., not needing to comply with the State law prohibiting alcohol sale past that time? It would seem logical that they would serve alcohol whenever, because I would imagine that the people going to a casino at 4 in the morning on the weekend, probably aren't going to to play slots and drink orange juice...I mean if thats your thing, do what you do ya know... Just curious to see how the Casinos and certain State laws interact or lack thereof...any help or first hand experience would be great! |

The casinos follow all Michigan Liquor laws. No sales after 2:00am, no Sales before 12:00 on Sundays and no free drinks. |

I think that the "no free drinks" is a bigger hurt than the specific hours. Many other casinos around the country are known for giving out free drinks to the crowds. |

on a related note, what ever happened with the effort in the Michigan legislature to allow bars and casinos to pay extra for the right to serve liquor until 4:00am if they wanted? |

The Detroit and Windsor casinos are very regional mkts and don't seem too worried as long as the laws in Ont. don't hurt Mich. and vice versa. No free drinks at either. When Windsor got craps Detroit added them, No minors on the floor at either. The exception, for now, is the no smoking law in Ont. which is really hurting Windsor. |

I would imagine the exchange rate is hurting Windsor more than the no smoking. |

If the free drink thing was really that much of an issue they could sell the drinks very inexpensively. I don't think the state has any minimum price for drinks sold by the glass at an on-premise location, just that they can't be free. The casinos could sell drinks for a nickel if they wanted to; they don't want to. |

Actually Detroit had craps from the very beginning.... Ontario had to change the provincial laws forbidding craps before Casino Windsor got them. This happened after the Detroit casinos opened. |

Last I heard there some of those “extended service hour” permits were issued. They can’t serve during the extended service hours, but people would be allowed to be on the premises as late as 4:00 AM. Subject to MLCC, as well as local government approval. I think it was $1000.00 for the permit, add another $500.00 if were talking Saturday night (which is Sunday morning) |

If you're going to have casinos in Michigan, let 'em serve alcohol 24/7 just like in Nevada. Let 'em have sports betting, too. None of this limited immorality... that's hypocritical. Go for full immorality. |

So forget those archaic post-prohibition Michigan liquor laws and come on out to Nevada. 24/7 liquor and free drinks to players. Just remember it's considered oafish to stiff your server. |

Not wanting to be "oafish", what's a proper tip for a "free" drink? jjaba prefers a living wage like in Australia where tipping is NOT expected. But, if jjaba could ever win at Keno, then he'll tip aplenty. jjaba, smelling The Bread at Motor City. |

Oh, a buck a drink is fine. And I'd not worry about a 'living wage' for those gals; many of them make a bundle, especially on the strip. Wife and I haven't been on the strip in years. Only time we go is when someone from 'back home' is in town and we go to meet them. We do our carousing in local joints, like the many Station Casinos or Sam's Town. |
