Did they just start looking for sponsorships or did they wait until the last minute to make a statement? |

The Blast has been lobbying and passing the hat like crazy since the '07 event. The problem is that we're in Detroit and past corporate patrons are in dire straits. In '06 all of the Big 3 contributed. In '07 Ford sat it out, Chrysler was out but its foundation was in, and GM's contribution was a shadow of the '06 presence. |

yikes... from an entertainment perspective it's always been a situation where you take a hit regardless... two years ago, I was in the group that performed at the kickoff for winter blast and we got paid $10 apiece... no joke |

Unofficial sources state that the Detroit City Council decided to delay the Winter Blast and hold it in August... as a cost cutting measure. |

Other unofficial sources leaked that in order to coincide with Detroit's moniker of "#1 Most Dangerous City in the United States" - they will be lining the snow-slides with broken bottles; and the bobsledding dogs on display will not be fed for a week prior to their being handled by the public. |

Time for MGM to kick in big as a thank you for the record revenues in October. |

that's one thing I've never understood. The three casinos downtown don't name sponsor big events much. I think MGM had a tent at the jazz fest, but that was about it. You'd think it would be a good marketing ploy for them to lend a name and a sack of money to more of these events. Are they satisfied with their current flow of patrons? Do they feel the amount of money they are forced to donate to the city/state on a daily basis is enough, and therefore don't need to sponsor events? What gives?? |

Well if the Ilitch's are already sponsoring the Winter Blast, then why does Motor City have to? Then if the Ilitch's a renot sponsoring anything, then they could do so through Motor City. I agree with MGM though. They could be nice enough to put something in on the Winter Blast. Greektown I think sponsored last year and is probably sponsoring again this year. |

Get Ford PR for the official word, but the buzz was predictable: massive lay-offs & buy-outs driven by plummeting sales and profitability, difficult to justify a $250K "community investment" when they were setting up to mortgage all assets for operating cash. Want Ford back in? Call your cousins and friends on the coasts and tell them to buy a 150 or a Taurus. |
