native detroiter Derrick Coleman is building strip malls and businesses in his neighborhood near Linwood and Clairmount. Unlike everyone else, he's doing it all without the now poplar tax breaks. http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.d ll/article?AID=/20071227/METRO /712270387 |

Strange, but the Detroit News actually had almost the same article in October. There is a link to it on the original thread. That being said, I still think it is great what he is doing in his neighborhood - especially given all the sports and entertainment celebrities from Detroit who have never done a thing for their hometown. |

In case anyone's curious about what it would look like, here's a SNYX in Chicago, on 47th and Prairie (directly across the street from an Athlete's Foot, oddly enough).

checked out snyx yesterday. DC himself was hanging out inside. A lot of shoes and a lot of his cousins. It was a cool place, and a nice strip mall as far as strip malls go. Really good to see. Cant remember if the article said this or not, but besides snyx and the barber shop, it looks like a hungry howies is going in there. |
