Has anyone used the new detailed "Street view" photos on Google maps? They just released a large area of Detroit and the coverage is great! Just go to Google Maps and check the "Street view" icon. (Message edited by Johnnny5 on December 29, 2007) |

Yeah, I have tried it and it's amazing. It appears that they had a driver in a specially equipped vehicle drive along many of Detroit's streets. There are some areas on the southwest side that they didn't travel along, but overall they covered most of the city. BTW, did you noticed that you saw no people in the images. They must have taken them out. |

My apologies for the repost. Threads get buried pretty quickly on this forum. (Message edited by Johnnny5 on December 29, 2007) |

I saw people in a few of the images, it might just be that they tried to avoid it as much as possible. If you look there's actually some amusing pictures of people reacting to the camera vehicle/driver. |

There's plenty of people walking on the streets. Some areas just don't have heavy foot traffic. Check it: http://tinyurl.com/2zkxps http://tinyurl.com/yoyv22 http://tinyurl.com/24tp4t |

My neighborhood is deserted in those pics. They must have been through it at daybreak on a Sunday morning. My house is largely unable to be seen because the sun was so low and to the east. Every store is closed. I don't think you can draw many conclusions by the number of people on the streets. There are too many variables (density, time, day of week, whether the bus just came by to pick up folks...) |

It seems that pictures of a particular neighborhood are often taken at different times or on different days. In one picture of my house, my car is parked on the side street (I live on a corner), when I move one step west, the car is gone and the flower beds appear to be more mature by a couple of weeks . In the picture of my sister’s house, her dogs are in the backyard which means the pictures were taken either on a weekend or between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning. |

Today the little guy you move around the map to see different streets is a snowman. Ha Ha |
