Specifics please. The cheapest PLACE to get beer. The cheapest COMMUNITIES to live in. Great entertainment > WHEN & WHERE & HOW MUCH. Get specific folks so we can capitalize on what we know collectively.

Cheap Food: Detroit Eastern Market - right about closing time for the venders on Saturdays is when they unload what they didn't sell during the prime time of the day.

Cheap Entertainment:
1) Campus Martius Park (Movie nights, Concerts, Petanque)

2) Detroit Riverwalk - sights of the river, exercise, concerts

The cheap liquor at the Ammex gets a little more expensive as it must be exported. The bridge toll and the potential tax at the Canadian and US border points does not help as well.

Everything is cheaper in the D. The isles of most convenience stores are lined with endless cheap snacks not often found in the suburbs.

Summertime and the riverwalk, Campus Martius, Belle Isle, or chasing fires. OH almost forgot SANDLOT BASEBALL ON WEDNESDAYS!
INCOME: learn how to play an instrument play in greektown or wash windows off I-75.
DRINK: 5 O'clock Vodka
CLOTHES:Can't beat Salvation Army or Goodwill, normal retail clearance rack at nat'l dry goods.
FOOD:Gregs pizza on Livernois and 6 mile and their 88 cent slices.

Hamtramck. $10 in your pocket can have you stumbling home every nite. No shortage of $1-1.50 beer, $2 shots, usually one to two on the house (if the owner's not present), and someone will always buy a round, (someone, somewhere just got paid).

Until the Norwalk closed, the Norwalk Combo was two pitchers of High-Life (champipple) and a pack of Marlboro's for ten bucks.

Cheap liquor at the duty free is not that cheap. I thought it was so when I was getting ready for my 40th birthday bash, I hit up the store for six or so bottles of hard booze. Customs asks me if I have anything to declare _ I said I bought six bottles of booze and there are two people in the car. They put a yellow slip on my car and ask me to pull over. After they're done assessing me about $100, they explain to me that the booze is sold duty free, but there is still a duty owed and that it's up to the discretion of the custom's officer to collect it or not. It was very confusing but I do think it's true. Just be careful.

Get stuff for free on craigslist list and sell it on ebay. Buyer pays shipping.

Most CVS stores have granola bars for 25 cents. I've found when I'm hungry milling around - that's more than enough to hold me over.

Dollar+ menus at Burger King, Wendy's and McDonalds. Why pay $4.29 for a value meal when you can get two double chesseburgers and a water for $2.00.

Most of the fun things are free. Wandering around downtown. Running on Belle Isle. Visiting Eastern Market. Noel night. Dally in the Alley. Fourth Street Fair. Paying for entertainment is for the lazy.

Apartments surrounding WSU can be found in the $300 range. Of course these aren't Park Shelton quality, but if you're pinching pennies - look at those four story brick walkups. call the company on the door (maintenance/building manager)

I think it has been mentioned in other threads, but the movie theatre at the Universal Mall is very cheap, 50 cents on Mondays I think, $1.50 most days.

I know some people think it is too icky, but I haven't had that bad an experience there. Maybe it depends on the film.

"Cheap" is a cheapened version of the adverb "cheaply." You get 29% off. So what's the beef? :-)
