Are there any former DPD guys out there? I need to know the length of the leather for the batons. I bet if Ray1936 sees this he may be able to lend some information. |

Were you planning on having a little late night fun after Menjo's gets out? |

Too funny. btw, what do the length of leather batons have to do with the price of tea in China? Things were different back then, and they will be different in the future. All things have relevancy. |

How long? Long enough for a rookie to careless toss his stick through a plateglass window while trying to perfect the sideways flip. (or so goes the cautionary tale) |

Used to be that regulations said no longer than six inches. It was a joke, because everyone used a length of rawhide that extended to the tip of the baton. You couldn't do tricks with a six inch length. But then, you didn't turn your shins black and blue, either. I don't suppose they even use these any more, in favor of the vinyl batons now in use. But the old ones used to be made by the inmates out at DEHOCO forty years back. Here's mine from the early 1960s.

Ray1936; I am going to have a duplicate made. I have one from the Mounted days. They will be displayed on some nice wooden holders I'll have to experiment with the length to see what works. It may take some time. Thanks again for coming through with some important data. |

Wouldn't mind seeing a photo of those when the project is done, Stinger. Keep it in mind! |

Posting the photos on the computer will probably require more work than the woodworking part of the project. I may be able to get some help from children with more computer skills than I have. |
