Council should pass this, I don't see how a few more street vendors is going do any harm.

Detroit council may give street vendors more options

The Detroit City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on a proposal that would give street vendors long-sought greater ability to conduct business in the city.

Currently, vendors are limited to downtown and the Cultural Center with the city given broad discretion to limit the number of licenses issued. Under the changes, vendors would be able to sell their products on any city-owned right-of-way, provided that the city approves the location. There would remain restrictions on vending near other businesses and on maintaining sufficient space for pedestrians to pass on a sidewalk.

But opposition to the changes is building from downtown restaurants and retailers concerned about the plan siphoning away their business
