Allen Park had one when I was a kid in the 60's. The guy that ran it seemed kind of wierd, but no other places within riding my bike to get to. Any other places around or have they all disappeared? |

Dude, RECORD GRAVEYARD in Hamtramck. It's more like a record heaven! If you mean vinyl-only stores. It's the best. It's next to the Belmont Bar at 10215 Jos Compau. RECORD TIME in Roseville has CDs and vinyl. Also check PEOPLE'S RECORDS and CAR CITY RECORDS in St. Clair Shores! HOT HITS in Roseville may be open as well. Once again, the East Side comes through for ya! |

Nice list Melody. Car city was always cool because they priced stuff so with tax it would be a whole dollar amount. |

None of the records in The Record Graveyard are priced. Every time I wanted to buy something, they would call someone on the phone to get a price. The Graveyard creeps me out. |

Record sales in general are doing awful right now. It'll be interesting to see how the music business in general shakes out over the next few years. In 2000 there were 18 albums with sales over three million; in 2007, 1. |

Ann Arbor's used stores (PJ's and Wazoo) are still worth a stop. Stores with new merch are pretty much all gone. |

I thought the Record Graveyard was closed. I went there about a year ago and it looked like they had closed up shop. The place had a pretty impressive collection. People's Records is one of the best around now. The guys that own it are very friendly and the records are reasonably priced. |

On Gratiot, a really cool record store with a ton of selection, they also have old 70's toy stuff. Melodies and Memories - 23013 Gratiot, Eastpointe http://www.madmanmike.com/musi c_stores.html Has anyone here have experience with the new USB Record player, which plays vinyl but uses digital USB to transfer sound to the amp and speakers? I was thinking of buying one. $69. at Costco. |

Davidruffin the Graveyard moved about a year ago to its present location on the NW corner of Jos Campau and Belmont. There's also a teeny record store on Livernois just north of Mc Nichols, on the east side of Livernois, 1 block north of Little Caesars |

I am a record collector & I frequent Broadway Records, on Shadbolt Street in downtown Lake Orion; Sweet Music Records inside the Dixieland Flea Market (Dixie Hwy. & Telegraph, Waterford), People's Records (2nd & Forest, Detroit), Solo Records (northbound Woodward Avenue in RO near 13 Mile), the Record Collector & Record Time on 9 Mile in Ferndale, Streetcorner Music (13 & Southfield, Beverly Hills), et cetera. Here are a few others that I rarely go to but I will mention anyway: Rockabilly's-westbound M59 in Utica Car City Records-SCS (Incredibly, I've never been!) Flipside-Clawson-14 Mile (I went in several years ago...a few good records, half of it was a head shop) I'll also give an honorable mention to some that I used to go to that have closed in recent years: Neptune Records on 4th Street in RO, and Wendell's on Washington in RO. Check out Broadway Records in Lake Orion; I've been going since I was seven years old and it is what got my collecting habit fired up. He has relocated around downtown Lake Orion many times, and after a fire (the same one that consumed Sagebrush Cantina) his stock is now much smaller, but still worth a visit. The Sweet Music Records booth in Dixieland Flea Market is pretty comprehensive; I also remember going to Rainbow Records at the flea market in Mt. Clemens, Gibraltar, and it had some quality records. If I think of anything else I'll edit the post. Have a good weekend everyone. |

There is one that I know of that sells records in Hamtramck called "Record Graveyard". They have CD's as well. They have two turntables where you can play records. Great store. |

Flipside IS a strange stoner place, but you can pick up some good rare cds cheap. I like a lot of the obscure stuff and Canadian bands. I found a few of the Tragically Hip cds there I couldnt find anywhere else. I've even had a cd or 2 special ordered from them.I can get music there I can't find anywhere else. Allow me to threadjack for a minute. I'm looking for 2 old canadian cds and if anyone knows where I can find them Id be greatful (I found one on Amazon for like, $50,Which im NOT paying): Rubber's self-titled album. It has a song called "sunshine" and theres a rubber ducky on the cover. The other is Econoline Crush's "The Devil You know". If you come across either at any of the stores you mentioned LET ME KNOW. |

One of the last major mall-based chains in Canada, Music World, just went dark--taking with it two locations in Windsor--Devonshire and Tecumseh Mall. Devonshire still has a large HMV location that appears at least to be doing a respectable business. Dr. Disc downtown is a great place--diverse selection and a fairly knowledgable staff. |

People's appeals to me b/c it's in the city and yet it has a selection of vinyl that I like--Motown, rock 'n' roll, disco, etc. I don't like places that cater mostly to DJ's & have mostly vinyl that is new rap and techno: I can think of a couple of examples of this around the Metro area, where you walk in and all of the vinyl is fairly new and not appealing to someone w/ more retro tastes or collectors. Are there any other record stores in the city that would appeal to a record collector like me and are not completely rap or techno-oriented? Having said that, it is very cool that Detroit has at least one world-class record store with a diverse selection, and I like the location, too. |
