Why do they hold the Auto Show in January, the coldest month of the year in Detroit? Why not September or October? |

quote:why isn't Detroit the first Auto show in the country Because it isn't just a "country" thing - the NAIAS is the most recently established "international" auto show and it must schedule itself within the scheduling confines of the older international auto shows like Frankfurt, Paris, Tokyo, etc. If Detroit wanted their show held in September, it would have to be a regional show like in the old days, because it would conflict with the Frankfurt and Paris International Auto Shows, which are held in September on alternate years. The auto manufacturers who market internationally also have scheduling limitations that must be taken into consideration. (Message edited by Mikeg on January 14, 2008) |

it also has to do with kicking off the show well before the new model year which is usually after winter. September would be too late |

The auto show is in January due to the auto sales calender year. New vehicles go into production in late summer early fall. The new year autos begin to show up at the dealerships in quantity during late fall. They ramp production up to reach it's peak just about now. The auto show is the warmup to the strong spring and summer selling seasons. If it was any earlier customers would not be ready to look. If it were any later many customers would have already decided. It's the same reason the home builder's shows are always in the late winter and early spring. That is the time of year people are actually thinking about the new product for the next buying season. |

Is the NAIAS worth going to? I've never been to it but it'd probably cost me over $100 to attend, considering gas, ticket, parking. |

Hockey_guy....where are you coming from? tickets are $12, and parking ranges from $4-10 on average if you don't mind walking a couple blocks. |

Midland, 120 miles north of Detroit. I guess it would actually be $80. |
