I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet (unless I missed it in which case I deeply apologize). Liz Blondy, owner of KNine-to-Five and DetroitYES poster was featured on the Fox2 News this morning, talking about a dog program. It was good to see her, she has come a long way since opening her doggy daycare only about 3 years ago on Cass. Way to go, Liz. |

Major kudos. Great to see people succeed. She is even more proof small business can make it in the city, accomplished through hard work and a strong dose of dedication. |

It was posted on the Connections page a couple hours earlier... https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/10041/125386.html?120069 1805 Nice to see Liz getting so much publicity. She was part of the Freep article a couple weeks back about small business entrepreneurship in the city. |

Go Blondy. She was quoted extensively in Crain's last month too.
quote:Connecting cheerleading and coaching Open City meetings attract entrepreneurs Claire Nelson and Liz Blondy have designed Open City to be all those things for aspiring shopkeepers and small-business owners looking at Detroit as a place to build their dreams. ... Open City is a new group of mainly young entrepreneurs and small-business owners who meet monthly at Cliff Bell's restaurant at 2030 Park Ave. to exchange ideas. Interest and attendance are growing steadily. Blondy and Nelson estimate 55-60 people attended the first group meeting in September, and nearly 100 turned out at the third meeting last month. The group has yet to incorporate and has no organizational structure. Blondy said Open City is as much for the would-be business-owner as those who have already started. "Maybe 25 percent of the people (attending) are existing business-owners, and 75 percent are considering it or have a business plan or are in the process," she said. "We know a few people are already taking steps or putting something together because of some help they obtained at (the meetings), but it's still very early." Blondy, who also co-founded the group and owns a pet day care and grooming center called Canine to Five, said the group focuses primarily on developing new business within the city, though all entrepreneurs are welcome. A key focus of the group thus far has been the downtown area and neighboring Midtown historic neighborhood. ... |
