UD Jesuit grad Geoff Pope ('02) is playing for the Giants in today's Super Bowl. Some good links here on his path to the NFL. Good kid, making UD and the city proud. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01 /18/sports/football/18giants.h tml?_r=3&ref=sports&oref=slogi n&oref=slogin&oref=slogin http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01 /23/AR2008012303259.html?refer rer=emailarticle http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20080130/SPO RTS01/801300393/1048/SPORTS Ringing bell at NYSE... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =uty32-IhUGE |

"I'm coming back home to Detroit as soon as the Super Bowl is over," Pope said. "I'm going to do a big party. ... I'm going to go home after this opportunity and share everything with everybody." Sounds like a class guy. What perseverance! Good luck to the Giants today... they are gonna need it! |

"Tattoos now cover his arms. One shows a football, laced with a “313,” Detroit’s area code." Nice |

That's cool. I really liked the Giants already, now even more. But they have Eli and the Pats have Brady, so I'll take the Pats. |

I'm still cryin' over the Pack losing the playoff game. Nuts. |

U of D Jesuit is one of the most over looked bright spots in all of Detroit. This is the first thread on U of D I have seen. |

Wschnitt, I started a thread on UDM's Ask the Professor radio program ages ago. And yes, UDM is a quiet city jewel. Nice to see Geoff Pope get some local props too. |

U of D Jesuit and UDM are two separate institutions. |

My father teaches at U of D and has been proudly telling me all week about their homegrown son in the Super Bowl. |

I'll give you a hint, he teaches social studies at the academy, and psych at the high school. The boys call him Mr. Syd. I'm not sure if he would approve of me giving his name over the internet. Perhaps you know him? |

He's not the only local boy in the Super Bowl. Bill Sheridan, De La Salle Class of 1977, is the linebackers coach for the Giants. |

Yeah, I recognize the name, but I only went to the high school, not the academy. Too bad. (Message edited by wschnitt on February 04, 2008) |
