So, what are you giving up for Lent? I decided to give up self-denial.

Logically, he might've UP until that point of decision. Unfortunately, once baptized and confirmed, he'll be counted for life! I don't think they even stop counting those who are EXcommunicated in their tallies, can't show the numbers going down! |

Meat... I'm not Roman Catholic. I do appreciate the principle behind Lent: as a sacrifice.... Plus I hope to come out a vegetarian on the other side of the 40 days.... (Message edited by Foxyscholar on February 06, 2008) |

Ah-h-h, Ray, it is 'lent' to the Maker, the return will be magnificently more...but different, what each needs for their faith. |

“Lightening Ups” (I’m not Catholic, but it’s good for me, so I’ll lighten up a bit): 1) Chocolate only 2x week (it’s not as hard as it was ten years ago). 2) Alcohol only 2x week (I’m a homebrewer, I must partake of the nectar of the gods!) Anything past that is a $5 penalty, to be donated to charity at the end of Lent. 3) Cussing only 2x day – one for the drive in, & one for the drive home (the actual timeframe of occurrence is negotiable). Anything past that is a $1 penalty per cuss word, to be donated to charity at the end of Lent. “Take Ups:” 1) Each day, write down the three things for which I am most thankful that day. 2) Once a week, do something beyond what I normally do to better myself, my work environment, my career, my health, etc. (I can complain all I want, but that won’t make me healthier or happier.) 3) Don’t always take the easy path or do something the easy way – do the right thing, or do something the right way. [This one’s the hardest to describe] E.G.: It may be easiest for me to shoot an email to someone, but the better way may be to make a phone call; or, it may be easiest for me to ignore the trash by my office building, but the right thing to do is pick it up. |

El_jimbo, uhh...it's 40 days and 40 nights, not just a couple of weeks. I was going to give up the demon rum as well, but after tonite's drive home (3 hrs.) I already submitted. |

Awfavre: very commendable! I'm making the effort to get back in the groove of going to Church every weekend. I started going every Sunday during Lent as a teenager, and it lasted for about 5 years before I got overly self indulged busy on the weekends. Also giving up meat on Wednesdays and Fridays. No ulterior vegetarian motives |
