I used to go to the East Warren a lot in the late 70's and very early 80's. It was a hoppin place back then with dancing and cheap drinks. I never actually bowled there, but I hit the bar many times. I was in my late teens and early 20's. That was the general age of the dance crowd at the time. I met several girls that I ended up dating there and took other dates there as well. It was quite a hang out then. I moved away in 1981 and went there periodcally after that until 83 or so. |

I bowled in a league there in the late 60's. It was a nice diversion. There were more than a few attractive women on occasions. |

East Warren Lanes was my first real job-setting pins by hand into the rack and then jumping up in order to push the rack down( I was only 13 and short)1941-42. The manager was drafted and killed in Europe. Grew up on Oldtown and went to Finney as a grade school. Is the bowling alley still there? The Red Carpet was somewhere else-right? |

I recall Eddie Pawl's on East Warren somewhere north of Alter Road. I went there for dinner with my parents a few times in the mid-Sixties. |

A Denby buddy of mine took a bullet in an attempted holdup outside of the East Warren Lanes...I think in the 80's...he lived to tell about it...just heard from him the other day...after about 35 years. |

JY's is closed, is it not? I know that Your Place Lounge is still open. I used to go in both of those places, when I lived on Grayton just south of East Warren. Great neighborhood. |

JY's is closed. A good 3-4 years now. I quit hanging there after the 5th fight broke out while friends and I were throwing darts. Drunken rowdy bikers. Unruly crowds plus the fact that the owners were fighting about who was responsible for the taxes after the original owner passed (that was the story I heard, anyways) YPL is going strong. Live music on Sundays. |

Club 500 and Saber Lancer were places my parents took us in the late 70's early 1980's. Club 500 was the bomb for a kid. Video games, always some same age girls there with parents, we would go there for pizza and saber lancer for the burgers..andy |

"I don't remember Nottingham Lanes. Can anyone fill me in?" Nottingham Lanes was located at Warren & Nottingham. Smaller place with only 8 lanes I think. My dad bowled in there occasionally and it had a reputation of being a house where 180's were celebrated. Considering that for years you had Parkside, Royal, E. Warren, and Maple they were probably kind of the odd ones out. |

In the 60's if the Red Carpet line was out the door....we would have someone go upstairs at the RC to the bathroom and unlock the window. We would go up the back fire escape and enter through the mens room....it also saved the cover charge, too.... We knew the door guard at the East Warren ( He was one of the basketball coaches at Southeastern) so we would get right in no matter the length of the line outside.....when he worked behind the bar it also was a great night - as you would order a beer and put a buck down on the bar and he would give you your beer and 4 quarters back.... |

I used to hook up JY with his ST.Patrick's Day spread of corned beef and cabbage. He was quite the bar owner and friend. I loved that guy. I've seen him help a lot of people when they were struggling. I miss the X-Mas parties at Barbies too. Jim McCarty seemed to play there every year. Doesn't get much better than that.Except for the cats. |
