At 4:45 I heard what I think are three clusters of gunshots, totaling 16 or 17. I recorded the last group of them. http://www.unibrows.com/audio/ guns.mp3 |

Can't tell the direction -- any place the sound would come from would sound like it was coming from the direction of my window. |

Yeah, I hear shots due south by south west from Harper Woods. Usually warm weather but not always. Pretty chilling to capture them on a recording tho. Sounded like a pretty weighty handgun. It was probably a 9m on the recording. (Message edited by mauser765 on February 11, 2008) |

First year I lived in GPP, my wife who has always lived in GPP, told me to wait for New Years Eve for a real "blast". I could not believe New Years Eve - a fire fight in a war has to be similar to what I heard. Crazy |

So if that's New Year's Eve, did I hear a "Winter Blast"? |

Oh I know they arent from within Harper Woods usually. During the huge blackout there were a few shot gun blasts quite nearby - but that was a special occasion and the police were noooooowhere to be seen during the whole thing. |

Yeah, every once in a while I think I hear a gun battle. But mostly I think it's somebody drunk and firing their gun for laughs. But one night I was sure I heard a real battle. It sounded like it went like this: SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL: BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! AUTOMATIC RIFLE: WHUMMA-WHUMMA-WHUMMA-WHUMMA SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL: BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! All over. Then there was a very chilling and final silence. |

The amount of gunfire from Detroit on New Years is crazy. We lived in Grosse Pointe and I would make sure I stayed in the house. |

Some friends and I found a pistol on the sidewalk in Cadillac Square a few years back. A block away I saw a cop and told him exactly where it was (address and all), he didn't care. I went back a few hours later, and there in the exact spot I described sat a little black pistol. We joked about shooting it at stuff, but our better judgment took over, so I picked it up and threw it in a dumpster. |

heard it too, didn't realize it was gunfire, thought someone was knocking or pounding, the 2nd and 3rd rounds were at least 10 minutes from the round that woke me. Have no idea which direction it was coming from, but it sounded quite close to Rosa Parks Blvd. |

I have lived in Detroit for two years now and I have never once heard gunfire at night. I live in a high rise in Lafayette Park. I can hear the freeway 4 blocks away, fireworks from Grosse Pointe and even music from Comerica Park...so sound travels to my window very easily. I lived in Lansing for 21 years and heard occasional shots fired, as I lived in a tough area, but since moving to The D I have yet to hear any shots (excluding the open firing on NYE). Is this the exception? Is my neighborhood really that safe? |

I can't recall what night it was, but I heard five distinct shots near Woodbridge a few nights back. Probably the closest gunfire I've heard since living here. It's been a few months now, but while lying in bed I heard a gun battle and the aftermath. Heard two distinct weapons exchanging gun fire, around a dozen shots or so. Then, after about 5 minutes or relative silence, I heard sirens. Within 10 minutes the sirens started up again, this time it was obviously the ambulance, as one can hear when they make their turn onto Rosa Parks and head to the hospital, as the siren fades. While obviously sad, it was intriguing at the same time, hearing the whole story play out. Sort of like pre-tv days I suppose, when everyone listened to the radio for entertainment. |

Hey, Dan! I just got a handy Zoom H2 recorder, so I cracked my window open after the second round and managed to capture the third. There may have been several more shots an hour later, but I'm not as sure on those since my window was closed. Psewick, are you some kind of troll? ;) |

I boosted the signal a lot to make it audible, so although it wasn't super far away it isn't as close as the recording makes it sound. Do I know you in the real-world, Vizion? Dot com? |
