And the war goes on... "The Detroit Medical Center plans to cut payments to Wayne State University School of Medicine doctors treating Medicaid patients by $10 million a year...." http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20080209/B IZ/802090343/1001/BIZ "The Detroit Medical Center plans to reduce payments to the Wayne State University School of Medicine by $12 million a year, beginning Monday, in a dispute over whether the medical center pays doctors too much to treat poor patients." http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20080208/BUS INESS06/802080326 Your thoughts? Interesting sidebars to keep in mind as you post back: - DMC decision to try to bring in MSU osteopathic residents - DMC/WSU residency accreditation body (ACGME... you may remember them from last year) coming back in early next academic year - The legally binding document that cites agreed upon DMC payments to WSU. Will the "memorandum of understanding" be good enough? Of course, all the stuff brought up in prior battles (threat to the safety net of healthcare, jeopardizing medical education and future of physicians in Detroit, potential downfall of Detroit's largest employer and the country's largest single campus medical school) likely still apply and are fair game as well. |

I'm ignorant to the situation, but I hate the fact that there is always "drama" in Detroit what it comes to stuff like this. I wish people could just do business together and grow. In Houston, at the Texas Medical Center, one building alone employs over 15,000. If people in Detroit could agree on things maybe we could be like that one day... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T exas_Medical_Center |

It's a habitual problem in this region - we have too many people in charge with a 1-square foot view of what they're doing and completely unable (or politically unwilling) to see the 30,000 foot view. |

And again today... WSU-DMC dispute deepens 'This mess is just beginning to unravel,' Duggan tells staff http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20080212/BUS INESS06/802120328 Funny... to most it looks like this mess has been coming undone for some time now. Interesting to see Mr. Fink checking back in. |

Bump... with a new article. WSU-DMC disputes are costly Mediator gets more than $200,000 in fees http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll /article?AID=/20080214/BUSINES S06/802140368/1002 Note the last few lines about accreditation |

The issues concerning accreditation, although very important, only refer to the residency programs jointly sponsored by WSU and DMC. It has nothing to do with the Medical Student accreditation or the programs that WSU sponsors outside of it's arrangements with the DMC. |

Not to thread-jack, but was anyone else annoyed by the ads in the last article Afriend posted? The story mentions "telephone" interview, and there's a link to a phone company's ad imbedded in the article. |
