Looking for some big steamed lobster tonight. Any suggestions for somewhere in or around Detroit? Usually hit Ruths Chris but would like to try something different. Charlies crab only has 1.5 pounders. Mortons only has baked.

No.VI Chophouse at the Hotel Baronette in Novi.

Excellent food and service. Get a 5 pounder if you so desire.

5 lbs.! Holy Cow!

I gave my family lobster-grams for xmas ( www.livelob.com ) My parents cashed in theirs and had me over for Maine lobster tails. Boiled then broiled. Quite tasty!

Go to Noble Fish, buy your own take it home and boil it yourself, 8 -10 minutes. Make sure the water's boiling before you drop it in. Put on a crappy t-shirt, don't forget the butter and lemons, and rip the damn thing apart. Buy a cracker if you don't already have one. Don't forget to eat the "green-stuff" (females).

It always amazed me how fancy restaurants charged so much for lobster. They're bottom feeders, and extremely messy. But damn, they're good. They always taste better at those road- side sea-side stops in South-Coast Mass. or Maine.

Hamtragedy...last time I was in Maine the 1.5 pounders cost about 8 bucks at the local restaurants. I agree with you...you know when eating them they were in the ocean 1 day ago. Tasted way better.

Being boiled hurts.

“As an invertebrate zoologist who has studied crustaceans for a number of years, I can tell you the lobster has a rather sophisticated nervous system that, among other things, allows it to sense actions that will cause it harm. … [Lobsters] can, I am sure, sense pain.”

Take a long roadtrip to Minnesota and go to Grand Casino Mille Lacs near Onamia. Their Woodlands Steakhouse has the absolute best lobster tail and steak dinner ever! Usually about a 12 ounce tail and 6 ounce steak. Comes with fresh cranberry and french breads, great green salad and choice of potato and another veggie. No alcohol...just non-alcoholic wine, etc. Expensive, yes...about $60 per person, but if you want to treat yourself, this is the place. We go their once a year for our anniversary. After 27 years with each other, we deserve an expensive meal, lol.

Meijer always has 'em, and they'll cook them for you while you shop. I'm an inveterate restaurant eater, but I think they're a dish better done yourself out here away from the ocean. Freshness is paramount.

Imagine being dropped into boiling water and cooked alive. I saw a documentary on A & E once about the inhumane treatment of animals. The Chinese eat cat (yes, house cat). They showed a cook in a restaurant drop a live cat into a pot of boiling oil. After it came out it was still alive while the cook skinned off all of its' fur. It still lay there alive after all of that. How horrific!

The best bumper sticker I ever saw, on 75 north, around Saginaw:

Yes, done them myself many times. Actually we go down to a clam/lobster bake in Conn. every year. Cant wait. Ended up going to Mortons, smallest they had was a 3.5 pounder. $25/lb. Ohwell, it was good. With a $60 tip it was costly, but worth it. Fun to do once in a while. Great steak also. I would go back to Ruths Chris though. I think they are better and cheaper.

So many cats, so few good recipes.

I'd be wary of 3.5 to 5 # lobsters. I had a 5 pounder a year or two ago at Smith & Wolenki's in NYC. Very mushy. I complained to the waiter. He brough me a smaller one and adjusted the price. He was very nice (for a NY waiter) when he told me that the bigger lobsters get, the older and mushier they are.

cats, lobsters, dogs, fish.... who cares... as long as you are eating them... why don't you hear any outcry at the thousands of fishflys that are senselessly run over in the roads under the streetlights, why is one species considered more important to treat special vs. another, if you are going to be an animal nut, go for it, but treat all of them in that same crazy manner

fight on for the bugs that can't fight for themselves.....

I always liked Sinbad's

when you place a live lobster in a pot of boiling water, does it feel pain?
Norwegian scientists were asked to investigate pain, discomfort and stress in invertebrates and claim now to have discovered that the answer is no.

Norwegian scientists are about as credible as tobacco industry paid researchers in this instance. Clearly they have a vested interest in the results.

Just as Vegans or environmentalists have an interest in seeing nothing change in this world.
Do 90% of fish who are eaten by other fish feel pain?
Anyway, I will continue to eat my favorite delicacy and enjoy it, with melted butter and garlic sauce.

If animals were not meant to eat, they would not be made out of meat.

Ladyinabag, just because another culture eats what you consider to be a house pet, their perception of it is food. I'm sure there are cultures out there that think we're barbaric in our ways too. I'm not one to pass judgement as quickly as you would.
