Duly's, There is none other. When I sit at the counter I'm reminded of all that was once great about my former home.

Are we talking about Detroit or Metro Detroit (suburbs) here?

In Detroit, without a doubt it is Dulys!

I can't speak knowledgably on any of the joints in the burbz.

Dulys rule-ys! (it's on Vernor)
I WORK at National, I think National totally sucks in comparison to Dulys, Lafayette & American. Maybe I just like the 'city-ness' of those three, but National is too expensive for what you get.

Chalk another one up for Lafayette.

Three on two with everything, a Vernor's with a straw, and the milk trick thrown in for good measure.

I think everyone wants to know what dogs are served on these coney's. I've heard that National serves Koegel's which are good. I don't know what the others serve.

I would settle for ANY Coney here in San Diego, CA. Sometimes I make my own, but it's not the same. Although I have found two different brands of chili blocks that taste pretty close to Detroit coney chili.

The two brands available in San Diego are XLNT and Dolores. Dolores lists beef hearts as an ingredient, just like Detroit coney chili. XLNT only lists beef. I think XLNT has a better taste, more like coney chili. Dolores is a little spicier, like Mexican food.

I add extra ground beef and beans to make a pretty tasty coney chili. I always leave a smaller portion beanless, to put on hot dogs or on loose hamburger, which I serve in a hot dog bun. Of course I also add chopped onion and mustard.

Lafayette, with American a close 2nd( Gus is turning over in his grave, sorry)!

Gotta love the bathroom in a 'submarine' basement after 2A.M.

Detroitej72, after 2AM, Lafayette, crawling down the stairs...

Seriously, Lafayette is cool, but why does everyone seem to favor it over American? I actually prefer the chili next door.

I love the counter, the Gentleman who screams "two up" when I'm placing an order.

Also love the "basement", as said above.

Damn you all, now I want a coney!

I'm sorry to say it, but Duly's is awful.

Someone had to.

I admit I've never had their burgers (as I don't eat beef), but their chicken products are disgusting.

Best in the city: Detroit One on Woodward (try their homemade cakes, red velvet, mmm)

Best in region: Hercules Cafe, Farmington Hills, SUPER clean, delicious, albeit slightly pricey.

Duly's on West Vernor east of Junction, easily best in Detroit, maybe best Globally...

Anyone old enough to remember Nolan's bar a little further down on W.Vernor to Lansing...?

Ha-ha. ONE item from Duly's menu and they're bad?

I don't think any of us has ever had their chicken, I didn't even know it was on the damn menu!

Duly's is a dive joint...one of those places you would not go into on your own without a recommendation.

They do rule, but DON'T get their chicken!

Cheers...

Lafayette for best Coney

Spangas for best "Coney Island in Suburban Detroit" as the thread actually is listed. Spinach Pie and Greek Salad at 2am trumps two heavy chili once in a while
