Would we be the Mediterranean and Baltic Avenues? The low-rent skids just around the corner from, say, Chicago? |

I guess instead of taking a ride on the Reading, you'd take a ride on the Reuther? |

Instead of collecting rent, you have to pay foreclosure and quiet title fees. |

Does Detroit have its own Monopoly game? I know there is a Chicago edition of the Monopoly board game. |

There was an attorney practicing back in the 70's in the Penobscot Building named Lee Weisenthal. I think he has since passed away. Lee held a Monopoly Tournament each year. I believe he rented out rooms in the Book Cadillac hotel and it ran for two nights. Each attendee would dress in tuxedo and they would serve champagne and have their tournament.Quite formal, and these were dedicated Monopoly affeciandos. I got invited once but could not make the dates and did not have a tux anyway. Sounded like a classy get-together. |

I would argue for Detroit to be an orange property...perhaps St. James Ave or New York Ave. The city has a lot to offer for a reasonable price, but is not quite as attractive as the more popular areas. A good investment, but also high risk-high reward. Yes, I am a monopoly junkie! |

Detroit did have its own game- the luggage store in the Penobscot used to carry it. Still have my Detroit in a box. Dearborn and Grand Rapids also have their own (unofficial, of course!) games. Dearborn's is alarmingly lame. I say Detroit should be red... risky, but it could pay off. |

And of course, the final step up is to play Michiganopoly, the Wolverine version of Monopoly, available on eBay for about $20. |

Yeah, Detroits version of the game has a unique feature, in that when you land on a certain space, you wager a amount of money, and roll the dice and call out what you think the number will be, if it comes up you win ten times that amount. They call it the lotto space. |
