Hey. Just read this article in the Detroit News about the owner of Plaka Cafe in Greektown and his son being arrested for tax evasion. Anyone else catch this? http://www.detnews.com/apps/pb cs.dll/article?AID=/20080229/M ETRO01/802290387/1410/METRO01 |

"we are hoping this case sends a strong message - that my office is watching carefully . . ." yeah that's why you needed to be tipped off after 11 yrs. of not filing their taxes. What happens when you don't watch carefully? |

Plakas was gross. The food is terrible and I've had nothing but bad experiences there. Their only virtue was that they were open all the time. There are better places to eat in Greektown(namely, any other place) and Detroit. |

True to that Deteamster but where are you going to eat at 4 A.M. after stumbling out of the casino? |

That was a good place to eat after the casino's not great but ok. I can't believe the state is this F'd up where it takes them 12 years to figure out they haven't filed taxes. Maybe I should start a business and just not file tax returns for ten years. That would make me rich, then I could move to Belize and retire nicely. |

Plakas has to be the worst shit I've ever eaten in the city. I tried going there late at night a few times and every time I wished I had eaten a 50 cent microwave burrito instead. Apparently they quit paying off or giving free foods to the right officials. |

plaka is indeed yaka. the food was so so...but that owner was a real jackass to his waitresses, i'd have to agree with the above poster on that one. i used to wait tables so i am a bit touchy about this. but his tone and the look on his face when he would badger his staff made me cringe. i quit eating there just because of it. waiting tables is a thankless job to begin with (my experience anyways), it doesn;t help when you have some jerk ego inflated boss breathing down your neck. ick. they are an icon though. taxes suck. i agree, but i think i may have heard somewhere once that it takes money to make money. 12 years? how is that even possible? |

"Plaka is open folks." Hurray!! It's not the greatest food, but it is so convenient after a long night of drinking. |

Guess you have to be drunk to appreciate it. Gosh, $1.5 million in back taxes is a lot of hot dogs. |

I am often drunk and I found the men's room to be disgusting. Great lakes of a different variety. The food is just so-so. |

plaka really sucks, the place is a hole and the food is really disgusting. i hope they close. go to lafayette coney island to eat downtown after hours. not american coney island, its an indoor bus stop /crackhead hangout. |

business is business. There are plenty of truly awful eateries in the city. I'd rather have them than a vacant storefront in one of the more popular areas. This forum is lose/lose more often than not. |

Hellas has been around for 100+ years. It would be a shame to lose that one. Plaka is definitely a hole. Breakfast is about the only safe bet there. And, as has been noted, Tom the owner mercilessly badgers his staff. |

Paris Cafe closed But their wifi didn't I have been to Plaka probably 50 times and I'm pretty sure all I've had is the breakfast. Nothing to complain there, but I have heard mixed reviews of the other menu items. |

Doesn't Plakas also own the Big City Grill on Mich/Washington? I wonder if this will affect them... |
