I think it begins and ends with eastbound Warren over I75. It's a teeth rattler.

How about the Grand Blvd. bridge right next to the Milwaukee Park lofts. I believe you can see through to the ground in some spots.

Don't forget 7 Mile and Hayes.

That street is going to cave in one day.

i'd have to say that the Grand Blvd Bridge you've all mentioned has to be the most ominous stretch of road I've ever had the misfortune of driving on. Ever. Hands down.

Lets not forget Michigan Ave in Corktown. The combination of old asphalt and exposed brick has created quite the roller coaster ride.

One would think that the ride would be better if the asphalt were peeled off and the brick was reused.

How bout the Milwaukee bridge over 1-75. Rebar + Tires = New Tires and Rims.

Fenkell between Southfield & Evergreen will empty out your wallet as well.

For anyone living in St. Clair Shores... the cloverleaf loop from westbound 11 Mile Rd. to eastbound I-94 (at the I-696 interchange) is HORRIFIC!

I will co-sign on Michigan Ave through Corktown!
Hans 57 beat me to the punch

I remember how the west bound exit from 96 onto Southfield used to be before they fixed it - MAN!
That was long overdue

I once hit the biggest, invisible pothole you've ever seen on the Grand River/Fenkell/Southfield intersection. It literally came out of nowhere.
Before I knew it, I was IN it.

I wobbled down Grand River to my local tire place . . .why was I in line after about 7 people who had hit the SAME pothole as me?
IT was crazy

Well, goldensunshine deserves some kind of prize...but Grand Blvd. is really bad down near Michigan, too, especially in the southbound lane under the railroad tracks.

If we're talking Metro Detroit, Paddock St. in Pontiac gets an honorable mention.

The ramp from I-75 south to the westbound Davison has gotten bad.

i think this one is my favorite too, especially since it seems to have been left that way unattended for years.

runner up for me is the nearby clay ave bridge over 75, though thankfully this one is due for replacement once those bridges south of 94 are taken care of

Easily the Grand Blvd Bridge over the tracks. I took that route downtown from Hamtown and regret it very much. Took about 5 min to cross the bridge. That should be a condemnded bridge it was sickening no wonder people call this area the rust belt. My local pride took a hit going over that bridge. Look what has become of the Grand Blvd!

Duprey, between Casino and Moross, has the biggest pothole ever, I think because of a water main break. You can't really see it too well when coming towards Moross. I hit it the other day, and my head hit the ceiling.

second on Orchard Lake Road btw 14 and 15 for the worst in the burbs. I think there's a 3-foot deep pothole there, seriously. combine that with horrible-driving moms in their oversized SUVs and confederate flag-bearing speedracers and you've got quite a situation.

I third or whatever the Warren bridge over I-75. Survivable in a car but pretty bad on a bicycle.

I haven't been on the E. Grand bridge in a long time - makes me want to look!

When I moved here 10 years ago, the Southfield Fwy was the worst paved road surface I'd ever been on.

When I was in Latin America around that time on vacation friends apologized for the freeway pavement (midday heat would make the asphalt sticky) and were surprised when I said that they were a lot better than in Detroit!

That East Grand bridge you're talking about ISN'T over the freeway. It's over the railroad. Perhaps the worst in the city.

The Milwaukee Bridge at Russell usually has one or two grand-daddy potholes once or twice a year.

That Cass Avenue bridge over I-94 is a strut-rattler as well.

Davison between the entrance-exit for I-75 and Conant is a crazy ride. You'll have to dodge potholes, asphalt, and full-lane bumps.

What's the scoop with Michigan Ave? I know the state is responsible, and obviously won't do anything while it's a detour to I75, but is it scheduled down the road (no pun intended)?

Re: Mich. Ave.: There are plans to pump in concrete with a brick pattern soon. I wish they'd reconsider and keep that brick. It just needs to be neatened up and the rails in the center need to be replaced with even brick. (Or, hell, put the streetcar back in!)

I agree with many of the previous posts, but my vote still unquestionably goes to Grand Blvd. by the Milwaukee Lofts. Worst stretch of road I've ever driven on in my entire life, hands down. It literally feels like you're driving off road and it seems like it's never going to end until, suddenly, it does. It's so remarkably bad that I feel like you almost owe it to yourself to experience it firsthand just to say you did -- but make sure you're driving a truck with AWD.

This is a bit of of a twist because they are currently working on the road, but Jefferson all the way on the east side. While they were working they dug huge trenches across the road at intervals - yet had no signs warning you as you came out of Grosse Pointe Park onto that stretch. I hit that first dip going the speed limit and bottomed out my car, clacking my jaw shut. I stopped my car and looked in my lap to see my rear view mirror had landed there. It also unseated my rear windshield and tore up the oil pan on my transmission. Yow ! Thats what I get for not taking the truck, I guess.

Not in Detroit, but Orchard Lake Road between 12 and NWhighway. WTF ? Last time I crept through there there were 6 cars on the side of the road inspecting what had been wheels on their cars and SUVs. You cant even drive a straight line through that mess.

Is it just me or is this all a new level of road deterioration ? The chuck holes on I-94 and 696 are ten inches deep and they are everywhere. The ramps and overpasses are all especially bad. Here in the east side, these roads are (were) all newly surfaced.

Southfield Rd in Lincoln Park.. Hell DIX is pretty bad in that area, too. I wonder if they will ever make a connector from Southfield FWY to I-75 to keep the trucks form tearing up that stretch. Prolly not...no easy way to do it

I haven't been able to enjoy the Detroit roads too much lately, except for that my old street at home was basically falling apart last weekend when I was home.

If any of you are in Ann Arbor, the road has turned into a 100' stretch of sequential (almost in a pattern) potholes on S. Forest one block south of South Univ. I've never seen such a spectacle. It looks like some sort of man-made proving ground for off-road vehicles.

One of the big problems with the roads in Oakland County and in particular John R and Orchard Lake is due to Alkali-silica Reactivity (ASR). If you notice there is a common theme with some of the Oakland County roads in that the ones we are seeing major deterioration with were built in the same timeframe (mid to late 90's) The concrete should have lasted 30 years, but instead within 15 years these roads have crumbled. Whatever the mix of concrete that was use at this time created the ASR effect.

So, instead of spending money on roads that were due in this timeframe (2008) the County/cities need to fix old roads in the half the time they expected.

I think that rather than replace or repair the bridge where E. Grand Blvd crosses the old Dequindre GTW Line, the bridge can be demolished, and a standard boulevard grade crossing can be put in. That train line is now down to a single track from four or more, and sees just a single Detroit Connecting turn job on weekdays. Really no need to have that huge moon surface causeway there any longer. Tear that schitt dowwwwn!

The 2-3 potholes in the street right in front of my driveway. The car bounces into them every time I back out. They're small but annoying because this is an everyday thing for me. I wonder how much bigger or deeper they'll get once winter is over. As I go down the street there are an assortment of potholes in front of other folks driveways. Our street was repaved back in the 80's but its wearing down.

Workers are ALWAYS filling in the holes in the East Grand Bridge. I think there's more fill than actual surface in that roadway!
